Diesel Mechanic

Overview

Delta Waste Solutions is seeking a skilled and dependable Diesel Mechanic to support our fleet operations. The Diesel Mechanic will work under the supervision of the Lead Mechanic to perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel trucks and other equipment used in daily waste hauling operations.

Responsibilities

Vehicle Maintenance & Repair

• Perform routine maintenance and inspections on diesel trucks and related equipment (e.g., oil changes, brake service, tire work, and fluid checks).
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues under the direction of the Lead Mechanic.
• Assist with hydraulic system repairs and major mechanical work when needed.
• Perform basic welding procedures on trucks and dumpsters
• Perform road calls for breakdowns and assist with getting vehicles back into service quickly.
• Perform miscellaneous maintenance items such as swapping out flat tires, washing trucks and cleaning the shop

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all company safety procedures and wear proper PPE.
• Ensure repairs are performed to meet DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards.
• Complete safety inspections and report any issues to the Lead Mechanic.

Shop & Tool Maintenance

• Keep the shop area clean and organized.
• Maintain tools and equipment in good working order.
• Help track parts usage and communicate inventory needs to the Lead Mechanic.

Team Support

• Work collaboratively with the Lead Mechanic and Operations team to prioritize work.
• Communicate clearly about vehicle conditions, repair status, and potential issues.
• Support other team members and help train junior staff as needed.

Requirements

• 3+ years of hands-on experience as a diesel or heavy truck mechanic.
• Working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Ability to use diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
• Familiarity with DOT and OSHA regulations is a plus.
• Physically capable of lifting heavy tools and parts, working in tight spaces, and standing for long periods.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus but not required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
