Established business in Marietta provides on-site and select local fleet maintenance and repair services on medium- and heavy-duty trucks to keep the vehicles serviced in safe and compliant operating condition. Position will provide a full range of electrical and mechanical services which includes minor and major repairs, diagnostics, inspections, and maintenance work in accordance with factory, industry, state, and federal standards. You will work closely with other team members to meet company goals.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Diagnosing and repairing medium- and heavy-duty diesel trucks, including but not limited to, engines, suspensions, hydraulics, transmissions (manual and automatic), electrical/air/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, air conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, differentials, etc.
· Disassembling, repairing, and validating work meets proper operating conditions, applicable standards and customer authorized work on repair orders (RO)
· Performing routine preventative maintenance (PM) such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery
· Using diagnostic software for all type of medium- and heavy-duty engines
· Independently determining parts required for each job, interacting with the shop manager to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order (PO) numbers and/or discuss RO findings
· Providing necessary documented information to shop administrator to obtain approved parts
· Operating gauges, testing/precision instruments, tools (hand, portable power, diesel), welding equipment, lifts, jacks, and hoists
· Using a tablet or computer to enter tickets and labor time on each customer job, including software entries to provide estimates
· Validating gauges, dials, tools, or other indicators are working properly before using
· Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate course, including troubleshooting all issues to make customer aware before initiating work
· Determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes
· Managing concurrent assigned tasks to make effective judgments as to prioritizing work related activities, time allocations, and maintaining productivity within or close to Standard Repair Times
· Documenting work according to company standards and uploading pictures of work performed, parts used, and all findings observed on RO using company issued device and/or application
· Timely and accurately completing Department of Transportation (DOT) forms and all other forms of documentation
· Performing all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies, and federal regulations, to include Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and DOT
· Following and complying with safe operating practices and procedures including maintaining a clean and safe work area and environment, assisting in cleaning up the shop equipment, floors, and fluid containment areas at the end of each day for tools, parts
· Moving customer trucks and equipment in and out of work bays, around shop lot, and driving customer vehicles for diagnostic and post-repair test drives
· Interacting with clients in-person, over the phone or via email/text when necessary
· Applying knowledge acquired through on-the-job experience to perform one's job; working with, understanding, and evaluating technical information related to the job
· Acting with integrity, demonstrating honesty, and keeping commitments
· Adhering to company policies, processes, and procedures
· All other duties as assigned
Required Education/Experience:
· Minimum of 3 years of experience working on diesel trucks
· Experience with any of the following a plus, chassis, drivelines, powertrains, wheel seals or air conditioning systems, and on-board computers
· Experience operating gauges, testing/precision instruments, tools (hand, portable power, diesel), welding equipment, lifts, jacks, and hoists associated with vehicle troubleshooting and repairs
· Experience safely operating vehicles equipped with manual and automatic transmission
· Experience interpreting manuals and troubleshooting guides as required to perform repairs
· Must have valid driver’s license with a clear driving record, CDL helpful
· Diesel truck / Equipment Technical school, Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification, or equivalent experience preferred – ASE certifications T8 (PMI); T3 (Drivetrain); T4 (Brakes); T5 (Suspension); T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems); T7 (HVAC); 608/609)
Required Skills & Abilities:
· General knowledge of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR); emissions control systems such as Regen, diesel particulate filter (DPF), diesel exhaust fluid (DEF); foundation; air; anti-lock braking systems (ABS); and direct current (DC) electrical systems
· Understanding the importance of diagnostic and repair versus parts replacement
· Possesses set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties and a locking toolbox to secure tools
· Proficient computer skills including maintenance programs and diagnostic systems
· Proficiency in reading (8th grade level) and interpreting a variety of documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
· Proficiency in adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
· Proficiency in solving practical and complex problems and dealing with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
· Possesses strength and stamina required to work with heavy equipment in awkward positions and access any area of the equipment or vehicle to perform necessary maintenance and lift up to 50 lbs
· Excellent customer service mindset balanced with achieving business priorities/goals

· Understanding the implication of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
· Communicating information (for example, facts, ideas, or messages) in a succinct and organized manner and engages in effective two-way communication with individuals and groups

Physical Demands / Work Environment:
· Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, lift and/or move (up to 50 pounds), bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, walk, sit, climb (up to 25 feet in height), balance, talk, hear, and smell
· Occasionally required to work overhead or while leaning over equipment or engine
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
· Occasionally exposed to loud noise

· Exposure to dust, grease, diesel fumes and noise
· Access any area of the equipment or vehicle to perform necessary maintenance
