About Equal Citizens

Equal Citizens is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Harvard Law Professor Lawrence Lessig that works to address corruption in American democracy. Our mission is to restore the promise of equal political standing for all citizens through legal advocacy, research, and public education.

Our Current Work

We are intervening in DTA v. Schneider, a First Circuit appellate case that could end Super PACs. Our team is developing compelling communications materials to engage stakeholders and the broader public in this important constitutional debate.

Digital Communications Internship

Part-time Position | 15 hours per week | $22/hour

Overview

Equal Citizens seeks a remote Digital Communications Intern to strengthen our online presence, craft social media strategy, and engage audiences on campaign finance reform and our specific case. This role offers the opportunity to shape public discourse around money in politics while developing professional communications experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and post social media content across platforms (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok)
  • Support the creation of engaging graphics, videos, and multimedia content
  • Monitor social media engagement and analytics to refine messaging strategy
  • Draft and edit digital content
  • Contribute to communications strategy and brainstorm content ideas with the team

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with or keen interest in social media platforms
  • Familiarity with money in politics and campaign finance reform
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

About This Role

Interns at Equal Citizens have significant input in shaping their experience. You will work directly with the Executive Director to define projects, set priorities, and develop skills aligned with your interests and career goals. This is an opportunity to engage meaningfully with critical issues of democratic accountability while building a professional portfolio.
