POSITION TITLE: Digital Communications Specialist

REPORTS TO: Director of Marketing

POSITION SUMMARY: This role is responsible for managing and optimizing the Oregon Coast Aquarium’s digital presence across web, email, and social platforms to enhance guest engagement, support membership and admissions, and advance organizational priorities. The position produces content for website, email campaigns, SEO, and integrated digital marketing initiatives, ensuring accessibility, mobile responsiveness, and data-driven optimization. Acting as both strategist and content creator, this role develops cohesive content calendars, produces engaging digital and filmed content, and collaborates across departments to align messaging with programming and operations. The position leverages analytics to guide improvements, maintains digital workflows and governance, and supports scalable systems that drive efficiency and impact.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and update website content for the Oregon Coast Aquarium, optimizing navigation, mobile responsiveness, and accessibility.
  • Execute and maintain integrated digital campaigns across web and email platforms to support organizational initiatives.
  • Monitor campaign and site performance using tools like Google Analytics and provide reports and insights to guide content improvements and conversion strategies.
  • Build and manage email campaigns using segmentation, automation, and behavioral data to support audience engagement across the lifecycle including acquisition, renewal, and re-engagement.
  • Maintain documentation of digital workflows and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for CMS, email, and asset management systems.
  • Collaborate with teams such as Membership, Education, Guest Services, and IT to ensure digital content reflects current programming and priorities.
  • Stay up to date with digital trends, tools, and user behavior to recommend enhancements that improve experience and engagement.
  • Evaluate and manage digital platforms, including CMS and email systems (e.g., Emma Mail)
  • Strategic content planning - develop a cohesive and data-driven content calendar to drive organic social media growth
  • Co-develop content engagement goals to benchmark the development of engaging social content.
  • Act as a visible spokesperson in filmed content.
  • Attend designated functions for content production and partner building
  • Develop and train staff in content production and processes to optimize contribution and content.

KEY COMPETENCIES:

  • Data-Driven Optimization: Leverage analytics tools to identify performance trends, A/B test variables, and refine digital experiences based on real-time feedback and engagement metrics.
  • Engaging Organic Social Media Content: Creation of content that is optimize by channel to effectively deliver increased engagement, awareness and conversions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated success in designing and optimizing digital marketing programs that drive engagement, conversions, and business outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of organic social media content and use of effective strategies to increase awareness, engagement and reach.
  • Experience managing and integrating tools including CMS platforms, email marketing systems, and analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics 4).
  • Strong writing and editing skills with a focus on clarity, conversion, and brand alignment.
  • Strong project management and communication skills with the ability to coordinate across departments and external vendors.
  • Ability to synthesize data and develop actionable insights for digital growth.
  • Familiarity with SEO strategies and integration into content workflows.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) to support strategic planning, team communication, and compelling presentation of creative initiatives.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position does not currently supervise full-time staff but will serve as a key collaborator and project lead with internal stakeholders and external partners.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Digital Design, Web Development, or a related field; continuing education, digital strategy, or analytics platforms is a plus.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in digital marketing, with a demonstrated track record of leading integrated digital campaigns, managing web content, and optimizing user experience across channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute data-informed digital strategies, including web optimization, email marketing, and SEO.
  • Strong working knowledge of CMS platforms, email marketing systems (e.g., Emma Mail or similar), digital asset management (e.g., Canto), and analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics 4).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate data and digital insights into actionable strategies for diverse stakeholders.
  • Must be comfortable working in front of a camera
