Digital Literacy Instructor (IDPL) - Career Pathways
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Digital Literacy Instructor teaches essential computer and internet skills to students, ranging from basic hardware use to advanced software applications, with a focus on online safety, digital communication, and employability skills. The Digital Literacy Instructor design curriculums, facilitate in-person classes and online workshops, provide one-on-one coaching, and assess student progress.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and implement digital literacy lessons tailored to teaching fundamental computer skills to use software such as Microsoft Suite, Google Workspace, etc.

Guide students in email communication, online safety, and cybersecurity best practices.

Offer both, individualized and group instruction to accommodate diverse proficiency level, monitor students progress, assess learning outcomes, and provide constructive feedback.

Create or adapt engaging lesson plans and select learning materials designed for adults or diverse proficiency levels and students’ ability needs.

Deliver the lesson plans using a student-centered approach designed to meet the students’ level of understanding and needs.

Use a variety of teaching strategies, including individual or small group instruction to better address the students varying skills levels.

Be knowledgeable of resources that will help in meeting the needs of the students.

Encourage and support the adult digital literacy learners by helping them gain confidence about using computers, the internet, digital tools, and develop a positive attitude about learning

Respect and involve the students in decisions about their learning process; supporting them and praising them for their efforts.

Maintain accurate attendance, student performance, and progress assessments records for reporting purposes.

Track the student’s progress through regular assessments and submit monthly reports to the Dean of Career Pathways.

Collaborate with program staff to refine program curriculum and adapt it to current program needs

Keep a daily and accurate attendance log to track the participants’ daily attendance and submit a weekly attendance report to the Dean of Career Pathways.

Contact program participants who are absent to class and record their absence and case notes in the data tracking system.

In collaboration with the Intake Coordinator, manage the Computer Lab and classroom reservations and notify of any change in schedule and/or classroom location.

Assist resource room users in utilizing the computer equipment for additional practice, for internet navigation purposes, or for the have their printing needs addressed.

Relay concerns, issues, questions, and comments as appropriate to the Dean of Career Pathways or to the Intake Coordinator.

Provide basic troubleshooting for hardware and software in a classroom or lab environment.

Mentor, counsel, and tutor trainees as needed

Attend meetings with program staff as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
-
Associate Degree preferred, or equivalent certification in education, computer science, IT, or a related field.

Experience teaching or tutoring adults, especially in socioeconomically diverse and underserved communities.

Experience leading structured computer-based classes for adult students with various degrees of computer skills and education levels preferred.

Familiarity with digital literacy assessment tools.

Ability to communicate in Spanish and English is necessary.

Advanced to expert knowledge of Microsoft office products such as: Word, Excel, and Outlook and web-based applications such as: Google Docs, Email, video conferencing tools, and job search engines

Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage adult learners and explain complex concepts simply.

Be flexible and highly patient to work with adult learners of varying educational levels.

Knowledge of e-learning and assessment tools.

Ability to adapt to new technologies and curriculum needs.

Administrative experience and ability to stay organized and thorough; strong attention to detail

Demonstrate ability to work in a team and be proactive and results-driven when working with little to no supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The majority of the work performed is in a classroom environment. This position requires the availability to stand for long periods of time.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Majority of work performed in a general school environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at organization sponsored events and meetings.
