J. Gibson McIlvain Company has been providing high quality wood products since 1798 and is a trusted and well-known name and hardwood authority in the lumber business. As the Importer of Record, Lumber yard, and Architectural Millwork House we have total quality control throughout the entire supply chain from the forest anywhere in the world all the way to your job site. With centuries of experience, we are a powerful supplier of both domestic and imported, exotic hardwood lumber such as Teak, Sapele, Genuine Mahogany, Black Walnut, and Ipe. J. Gibson McIlvain is more than just materials and with our comprehensive architectural millwork facility, we offer custom millwork services from interior trim and cabinetry to exterior siding, pergolas, and furniture.

JOB SUMMARY:
We’re expanding our marketing team and adding a hands-on Digital Marketing Manager who will own day-to-day digital operations and content production that drives awareness and demand for our lumber and millwork products. This role blends technical site maintenance (WordPress + SEO) with creative execution (email marketing + collateral creation in Adobe CC). You’ll thrive here if you’re a self-starter who enjoys rolling up your sleeves, collaborating with sales and product teams, and bringing practical, measurable improvements to our digital footprint. A love of wood and woodworking will go a long way here but not necessary. This position is an on site role, located in White Marsh, MD with routine time in the yard/millwork areas to gather product information and visuals (personal protective equipment provided where required).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Website & SEO
  • Maintain and update our WordPress site (content updates, plugin/theme maintenance, basic HTML/CSS where needed).
  • Own on-page SEO: metadata, schema, internal linking, image optimization, and content performance tracking.
  • Run regular technical SEO checks (crawl health, index coverage, site speed/Core Web Vitals) and implement fixes.
  • Plan and execute content updates that support product pages, case studies, and learning resources for customers.
Email Marketing
  • Build and send email campaigns (newsletters, product updates, promotions); manage audience segments and list hygiene.
  • Set up A/B tests, automate drips where appropriate, and report performance (deliverability, open/click rates, conversions).

Marketing Collateral (Adobe CC)
  • Create/refresh sales sheets, spec sheets, installation guides, event graphics, and social assets using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Ensure brand consistency across digital and print; prepare files for vendor-ready production.
Analytics & Reporting
  • Measure and report weekly/monthly KPIs across web, search, and email; translate insights into backlog priorities.
  • Create simple dashboards for stakeholders; document experiments and learnings.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with sales, product/finished goods, and millwork teams to gather inputs, source photography, and ensure accurate product positioning.
  • Support event/trade show prep with signage, booth graphics, and follow-up campaigns.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Were open to two talent profiles:
  • Recent graduates with a self-starter, enthusiastic personality and demonstrable projects/internships in digital marketing.
  • Early-career marketers (1–5 years) with hands-on experience in website management, SEO, email, and Adobe CC.
Must-Haves
  • WordPress site administration and content publishing; comfort with basic HTML/CSS.
  • Practical SEO knowledge (on-page + basic technical) and familiarity with Google Search Console & GA4.
  • Email marketing experience (any reputable ESP); list management, segmentation, and campaign reporting.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign—capable of producing press-ready collateral.
  • Strong writing/editing for web and email; ability to translate technical product info into customer-friendly content.
  • Organized, proactive, and comfortable working onsite in an industrial/lumber environment.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience with schema/structured data and site speed optimization.
  • Familiarity with keyword research and content planning.
  • Basic photography/videography (yard, product, install photos).
  • Experience coordinating print vendors and file handoff.

COMPANY BENEFITS:
