Digital Modeling Specialist

Role Overview

The Digital Modeling Specialist – Design & Engineering develops, maintains, and optimizes BIM and 3D digital models that drive the full façade design and engineering lifecycle. This role supports conceptual design, technical system development, multidisciplinary coordination, and readiness for fabrication. The specialist ensures models are accurate, parametric, coordinated, and aligned with performance and manufacturing constraints, enabling digital‑first execution across all project stages.

Key Responsibilities

1. BIM & 3D Modeling Leadership

· Build and manage advanced BIM/3D models for façade systems (Revit, Rhino, Inventor, SolidWorks, etc.).

· Ensure models follow internal D&E standards: LOD, naming conventions, tolerances, metadata, and interface logic.

· Convert conceptual geometry into detailed, coordinated engineering models.

· Validate technical accuracy across design intent, engineering logic, and system performance.

2. Parametric & Computational Design

· Develop parametric scripts (Grasshopper, Dynamo, Python, etc.) to automate workflows and rationalize geometry.

· Support rapid design iterations and system optioning.

· Build reusable parametric assemblies and computational toolkits.

3. Multidisciplinary Coordination

· Collaborate with structural, thermal, and façade engineers to integrate engineering requirements into the model.

· Support coordination, clash detection, and interface alignment across disciplines.

· Generate coordinated deliverables (drawings, sections, schedules, assemblies) directly from models.

4. Technical Documentation & Digital Deliverables

· Produce fabrication‑ready geometry, detailed system documentation, and digital submittals.

· Extract quantities, metadata, and technical data to support engineering and procurement.

· Ensure compliance with internal digital standards and external client BIM protocols.

5. Standards, Quality & Digital Innovation

· Maintain and improve modeling standards, templates, and libraries for the Design & Engineering Team.

· Lead continuous improvement to reduce manual modeling and improve accuracy.

· Support adoption of new modeling technologies, workflows, and tools.

Qualifications & Requirements (Requisites)

Education

· Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Industrial Design, Computational Design, or a related field.

· Master’s degree is a plus, especially in Parametric Design, Façade Engineering, or Digital Fabrication.

Advanced proficiency in:

· Revit (BIM workflows, families, documentation)

· Rhino + Grasshopper (complex geometry + parametric modeling)

· Experience with at least one of the following is strongly preferred:

· Inventor / SolidWorks / CATIA / Fusion 360

· Dynamo, Python scripting, C# components in Grasshopper

· Navisworks for coordination & clash detection

Professional Experience

  • 3–5+ years experience in: Façade engineering or façade design, Advanced digital modeling for complex geometry, BIM‑driven coordination across disciplines
  • Experience working with architects, engineers, fabricators, and project managers in a collaborative technical environment.
  • Strong knowledge of façade systems: glazing, framing, cladding, anchors, waterproofing, and interface details.
  • Understanding of fabrication constraints and manufacturing‑ready geometry.

Core Competencies

· Ability to manage and structure complex 3D models.

· Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.

· Ability to translate abstract geometry into engineered solutions.

· High attention to detail and consistency in digital deliverables.

· Strong communication and interdisciplinary coordination skills.

· Proactive, organized, and high ownership mindset.

· Preferred (Nice-to-Have)

· Experience in façade performance analysis (structural, thermal, daylighting).

· Experience working with manufacturing teams or understanding CNC / digital fabrication workflows.

· Knowledge of ISO 19650 or similar BIM standards.
