This position is expected to end in June 2027 and will be centered primarily in Taylor and Price counties with some additional travel to other sites.

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Digital Navigator to join our team. The Digital Navigator will play a vital role in assisting residents in Northwest Wisconsin in learning and accessing technology resources. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with local libraries to support digital literacy initiatives and overseeing the digital lending library program.

The Digital Navigator acts as a liaison, providing individualized or small group assistance regarding connectivity services information, devices, and foundational digital skills. The Digital Navigator also supports healthcare access navigation, helping individuals utilize technology to connect with healthcare services. This includes assisting with telehealth platforms, patient portals, online appointment scheduling, accessing medical records, understanding digital health tools, and connecting to reliable online health information. The Navigator will work closely with community partners, including healthcare providers and public health organizations, to reduce barriers to care—particularly for rural residents, older adults, and individuals with limited digital experience.

The Digital Navigator educates learner-workers so they can make their own decisions, resolving any emerging problems that learner-workers might face with accuracy and efficiency. This assistance is provided primarily in-person, but may also include telephone, email, text, video chat, and other communication methods that work for the learner.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Technology Assistance and Training:

§ Provide personalized support and guidance to residents in navigating technology devices, software applications, and online resources.

  • Conduct individual or group training sessions on basic computer skills, internet usage, email management, online safety, and other relevant topics.
  • Use effective strategies to identify learner-workers’ needs, and goal setting.
  • Provide basic procedural training and support to learner-workers in-person or online, using remote learning tools and strategies, including ELLs.
  • Participate in training on assistive technology tools (like Apple VoiceOver, Google TalkBack, Microsoft Narrator, Screen Magnifiers, among others).
  • Assist individuals in accessing and utilizing technology tools for various purposes, such as job searches, online learning, healthcare management, and social connectivity.

Community Outreach and Engagement:

  • Engage with community members to raise awareness of digital literacy programs and resources available.
  • Collaborate with local organizations, schools, senior centers, healthcare organizations, and community groups to identify and address the digital needs of the community.
  • Participate in community events, workshops, and outreach activities to promote digital literacy and facilitate access to technology.

Community Collaboration:

  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with libraries in Price and Taylor counties and neighboring areas.
  • Work closely with community organization staff to coordinate digital literacy programs, workshops, and events.
  • Support libraries in integrating technology into their services and programs to better serve patrons' needs.

Digital Lending Library Oversight:

  • Manage and oversee the digital device lending library program, ensuring the availability of technology devices and resources.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for borrowing, maintenance, and usage of digital library equipment.
  • Provide training and support to library staff and volunteers involved in the digital lending library program.

Data Collection and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of services provided, participant demographics, and program outcomes.
  • Prepare regular reports on program activities, impact metrics, and success stories for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Use data insights to continually evaluate and improve digital literacy initiatives and services.

Location & Commitments

Our administrative office is in Ashland, WI. It is expected that this position will have significant travel requirements each week with limited office hours. Travel reimbursement is provided. Flexibility in working hours may be required to accommodate evening or weekend events.

Candidate Requirements

  • A combination of education/ work experience in Information Technology, Education, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals and providing technology support and training.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with individuals of varying ages, backgrounds, and technological abilities.
  • Knowledge of digital literacy concepts, online resources, and assistive technologies.
  • Familiarity with library operations and services is a plus or a history of collaborative work with partners.
  • Proficiency in Appe, Android, Google, and Microsoft Office applications and other relevant software applications.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal regulations and policies.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to use a high level of integrity to effectively relate with people.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation for travel.
  • Lift and carry equipment necessary to complete work, approximately 20 pounds.

Pay: $48,500.00 - $50,000.00 per year
