Direct Support Professional

Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide exceptional care and assistance to individuals with diverse needs, including developmental disabilities, aging, and health challenges. Duties

  • Assist individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs and observe their condition closely to detect changes or concerns promptly.
  • Administer medications following care plans and HIPAA regulations to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Prepare nutritious meals and assist with cooking to meet dietary needs while maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards.
  • Support clients in engaging with community activities, social outings, or recreational programs to promote socialization and independence.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of care provided, patient observations, and any incidents in accordance with agency policies.
  • Follow all safety protocols including first aid procedures, CPR certification requirements, and infection control practices such as cleaning and sanitizing work areas.
  • Collaborate with team members, healthcare providers, families, and case managers to develop and implement personalized care plans tailored to each individual’s needs.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health environments is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of patient care techniques including assisting with ADLs, medication administration, and patient monitoring.
  • Certifications in first aid, CPR, HIPAA compliance training, and medication administration are preferred or required upon hire.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), dementia (including Alzheimer’s and memory care), or hospice care is advantageous.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using proper techniques and equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
  • Strong observational skills for patient monitoring and patient safety; attentive to changes in condition or behavior.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and families; compassionate approach toward clients’ well-being.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts including evenings, weekends or overnight hours as needed for client care continuity.
