Thursday 2:30p-Friday 9a & Friday 2:30p-Sat 10a (alternating Saturdays until 3p)
These shifts are paid asleep overnights.
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a crucial role in providing care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring their well-being and enhancing their quality of life. This position involves assisting clients with daily living activities (including meal preparation, household chores and bath routines), promoting independence, and fostering a supportive environment. The DSP will work closely with clients in various settings, including group home and community environments. The Direct Support Professional is responsible for creating a rewarding and safe living environment for individuals with mental/physical challenges.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Provide patient care and support in accordance with individualized care plans.
- Monitor and document client progress, vital signs, and any changes in behavior or health status.
- Ensure a clean and safe living environment by performing light housekeeping tasks.
- Assist with medication administration as directed by state regulations.
- Engage clients in social activities to promote community integration and enhance social skills.
- Implement strategies for individuals with autism, dementia, or other developmental disabilities to improve their daily functioning.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to clients while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and adjust care plans based on client needs.
Skills
- Experience working in group homes or assisted living settings is highly desirable.
- Strong patient observation skills to identify changes in client behavior or health.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure client confidentiality.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary (e.g., using a Hoyer lift).
- Proficiency in cooking and meal preparation for clients with dietary restrictions.
- Compassionate caregiving skills combined with the ability to work effectively with individuals who have disabilities or special needs.
