Direct Support Professional

Duties

  • Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary
  • Monitor patient health by taking vital signs, observing changes in condition, and reporting findings accurately in compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and assist with meal planning and cooking
  • Support medication administration following care plans and ensure proper documentation of all patient care activities
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light cleaning duties and adhering to infection control protocols
  • Engage clients in social activities and community outings to promote socialization and mental stimulation
  • Observe and document behavioral or health changes, especially for clients with dementia or autism, ensuring safety at all times

Experience

  • Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health environments is highly valued
  • Knowledge of patient care techniques including CPR, first aid, hospice care, Alzheimer’s care, memory care, and dementia support
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges such as autism or other cognitive impairments
  • Familiarity with care plans, medication management, patient monitoring, and HIPAA compliance
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and operate assistive devices like Hoyer lifts or resident lifts
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with healthcare teams and supporting residents’ social needs
  • Previous roles involving long-term care or social work that demonstrate compassion, patience, and attention to detail
