The Director – Accounting is responsible for directing and overseeing all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, budgeting, financial reporting, internal audits, and compliance with regulatory standards. This role ensures the accuracy of financial statements and supports strategic financial planning through financial analysis, forecasting, and collaboration with executive leadership.
Directs all accounting operations including general ledger management, revenue and expense reporting, accounts payable, and month-end close processes.
Ensures accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and corporate policies.
Leads development of annual operating budgets, capital planning initiatives, and long-term financial forecasts.
Oversees internal controls and ensures compliance with corporate standards, regulatory requirements, and audit guidelines.
Coordinates external audits and regulatory reviews, ensuring timely responses and implementation of corrective actions as needed.
Reviews and approves journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analyses prepared by accounting staff.
Provides financial oversight and guidance to department leaders regarding budget performance, variance analysis, and cost management.
Collaborates with finance leadership on reimbursement strategies, cash management, and financial risk mitigation.
Participates in evaluation of capital projects, vendor contracts, and investment planning initiatives.
Develops, maintains, and enforces accounting policies, procedures, and financial controls.
Hires, trains, and manages accounting staff, evaluates performance, and supports ongoing professional development.
Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), internal controls, budgeting, and healthcare reimbursement methodologies.
Proficiency with financial reporting software, general ledger systems, and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Experience supporting financial audits, regulatory reporting, and financial system implementations preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance. (Required)
Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field. (Preferred)
Certified Public Accountant (CPA). (Preferred upon hire)
Five (5) or more years of progressive accounting experience. (Required)
Three (3) or more years of experience in a leadership or management role. (Required)
Prior experience in healthcare finance or hospital accounting. (Preferred)
