ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY


SUMMARY: The AGRIscapes Outreach and Community Engagement (AOCE), reporting to the dean of the Huntley College of Agriculture (HCOA), is responsible for coordinating outreach and event activities at AGRIscapes; supporting Urban and Community Agriculture (UCA) engagement, community education, and research efforts. These operational, educational and outreach efforts will be outcomes-oriented and align with the mission and values of CPP and the Huntley College of Agriculture.


The AOCE creates an evolving strategic plan utilizing AGRIscapes resources to meet goals in a fiscally and environmentally sustainable manner with a commitment to community engagement and education. The AOCE meets regularly with the Dean/Associate Dean, Director of Farm Operations, Academic Department Chairs and selected faculty, and Farm Store Manager to support development and implementation of Outreach and Community Engagement goals and assess progress towards goals.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This person will participate in the following activities. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Create and implement in collaboration with the HCOA Dean, Associate Dean, Director of Farm Operations, Department Chairs and selected faculty, a master strategic plan that includes plans for land utilization, petting farm (petting zoo), outreach, community engagement, and marketing.
  • Serve as the liaison between the public and AGRIscapes maintaining positive relationships, fostering collaborative partners including industry, community organizations and schools and cultivate new supporters.
  • Coordinate with HCOA Faculty and staff to support research projects at AGRIscapes
  • Manage community engagement to include in-person and virtual events at AgriScapes ranging for a few dozen to thousands of visitors. Oversee planning, scheduling, advertising, implementation, budgeting, and evaluation.
  • Develop, plan, manage and oversee annual Foundation budget for the AgriScapes operating account.
  • Direct the farming operations of the Discovery Farm and the Children’s Garden.
  • Ensure operations are compliant with sanitation standards and comply with State and Federal environmental, USDA and Cal OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to adhere to a regular work schedule to include evenings, holidays and weekends.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage full and part-time employees. Maintain staffing oversight including hiring, job and safety training, scheduling, work assignments, work performance standards, approve time off requests, time changes and bi-weekly timecard approval.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Agriculture related fields, Communications, Marketing or Education.
  • Minimum three years of experience in community engagement with an agriculture focus.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize small and large events.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise full-time and part-time employees.
  • Ability to develop relationships internally and externally.
  • Must be able to manage to the values of the organization.
  • Have critical thinking skills and ability to adapt to unexpected situations.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Be open-minded – open to feedback, new ideas and diverse perspectives.
