We are looking for a Director for Learning and Development who will guide Good Shepherd Services’ commitment to being a learning organization.
Reports to: Chief of Mission and Learning Officer
Location: 305 7th Ave., New York, NY 10001/Hybrid
Hours: 35 hours, exempt (3 days in office; 2 days WFH)
Salary: $110,000 - $120,000

Major Duties:
Leadership
- Connect a strategic vision of departmental goals to the agency strategic plan
- Supervise a dynamic team of Learning & Development Department staff; currently five staff – a LMS Coordinator, a Senior Learning and Development Coordinator, and 3 Learning and Development Coordinators
- Find and share external best practices with program leadership, HR and L&D and Mission and Learning colleagues
- Serve as a leader on the Mission and Learning team
- Participate in Mission and Learning leadership team meetings
Project Management and Strategic Program Development
- Engage in ongoing training needs assessment and development of responsive learning pathways for each major program area, leveraging e-learning, hybrid, on-site localized training
- Oversee delivery of day-to-day learning and development offerings; ensure they are aligned with multiple criteria, including department goals, program needs, required trainings, and the agency strategic plan
- Leverage other free or low-cost training opportunities across the city, such as the ACS Workforce Institute and COFCCA
- Collaborate with the Chief of Mission and Learning Officer and Assistant Director of Organization Development to provide training that aligns with agency belonging and inclusion efforts
- Convene a Curriculum & Content committee that includes mental health and well-being, belonging and inclusion, and the L&D team to ensure training and curriculum aligns that meets twice per year
- Translate organizational and programmatic needs into integrated learning and development plans that takes into consideration functional and professional skills, career development actions, and funder and governing body requirements
- Create innovative approaches to learning and talent development challenges that look beyond conventional wisdom to create impactful change
- Develop online, hybrid, and face-to-face workshops around program needs
- Identify and manage multiple vendors, as well as internal and external consultants, to assist in program design and execution, including Cornerstone and LMS management
- Manage the LMS system; create curriculums/playlists for the different programs around compliance and regulatory trainings; use version control to manage multiple iterations of learning content
Engaging and Dynamic Communication Skills
- Oversee consistent, high-quality communication and marketing materials that highlight learning and development opportunities
- Engage with department members to enhance productivity, collaboration, and clarity of communication
- Facilitate online, hybrid, and face-to-face workshops as needed
Compliance
- Partner with staff to respond strategically to audits and reporting requests from external partners and within the agency; this includes ACS reporting, MMC reporting, program compliance reporting
- Develop reporting systems that meet the regulatory and management needs across a broad array of GSS programs
- Oversee L&D compliance and accreditation responsibilities
- Work on projects and opportunities as organizational needs emerge
Additional Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in organizational development, adult learning, social work or related field or 5 years’ experience in learning and development required.
- Experience with learning management systems preferred, especially Cornerstone
- Knowledge of adult learning styles such as participative training design, group dynamics, significant experience with instructional design, including the ADDIE and SAM models
- Experience in social services strongly preferred
- Strong expertise in developing, editing, and collaborating on content Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, and Office
- Experience with Asana
- Ability to use public transportation for travel to program locations throughout Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Bronx
