Director of AI and Data Architecture

Boston, United States

Help define the future of hardware development by building a collaboration platform for circuit designs that powers the next generation of smart vehicles, IoT devices, rockets, medical devices, robotics, and more.

At AllSpice, we’re creating an agile development environment for hardware designers, including Git-based design reviews, automated CI/CD, and agentic AI for native circuit designs — think GitHub/GitLab + Copilot for electronics. Read about our Series A announcement here.

As Director of AI and Data Architecture, you will own and improve our data architecture across Actions (CI/CD) and agentic AI, leveraging our comprehensive ECAD data pipeline to ship new features. The role will be roughly 50% technical leadership and 50% individual contribution, shaping the roadmap while contributing through prototypes and code reviews.

If you are passionate about large-scale software architecture and have a strong background in agentic AI, this role is for you.

What you’ll do

This high‑impact role comes with significant autonomy and requires a self‑driven, organized, and collaborative leader. You will manage our software architecture across user‑facing automation features and will:

  • Work closely with product to architect and de‑risk agentic workflows that combine specialized AI agents for hardware design review

  • Provide implementation feedback and guidance to software engineering direct reports

  • Partner with the infrastructure team to prioritize required resources and services

  • Coordinate observability for AI systems: tracing, prompt/version tracking, and cost monitoring

  • Identify technical debt affecting velocity and work with product leadership to sequence it

  • Guide research efforts on training and fine‑tuning models on electronics data

  • Assist with hiring across software and machine learning roles

  • Mentor staff‑level engineers and create growth paths for ICs and managers

Example projects

  • Architect a caching layer for electronics component datasheets

  • Refine electronics‑specific tool calls for the GenAI system

  • Design a methodology to evaluate end‑to‑end AI results and each agent in isolation

  • Define a roadmap to incorporate 2D and 3D PCB data into design review feedback

  • Establish automated tests and development workflows for Actions and GenAI teams

Our stack

  • Python with Pydantic for the AI framework

  • AWS and Bedrock for production infrastructure

  • Langfuse, Grafana, and Prometheus for observability

Expectations

Our ideal candidate has:

  • 8+ years of software and/or data architecture experience

  • 2+ years building agentic AI workflows for non‑standard data and interactions beyond chat

  • 2+ years managing direct reports

  • Experience with information retrieval and vector DBs for domain‑specific corpora

  • Experience training and/or fine‑tuning AI models (preferred)

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technology‑related field

  • Strong project management and communication skills

  • Experience managing software projects using tools such as Jira or Notion

  • Ability to think strategically and deliver on details

  • Comfort with ambiguity and a high degree of autonomy

  • Availability to work from our San Francisco or Boston flex offices on a hybrid basis, 2–3 days per week (preferred)

Relevant skills

You don’t need all of these, but more is better:

  • Python

  • AI platforms and frameworks such as Pydantic and LangChain

  • Evaluation design for agentic workflows

  • Team management and mentorship

  • AWS services

  • Docker and Kubernetes

Benefits

Supportive and smart colleagues. Flexible work. Big impact. Competitive salary and equity. Health, dental, and vision. Generous PTO. Home office stipend.
