The Director of Audience Activation Strategy is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping and executing the vision for Stream’s audience planning and activation channels. This position will oversee the strategic direction and operational excellence of all audience-led activation channels, including Display, Video, Audio, Direct Mail, and emerging addressable media. This individual will champion innovation, scale capabilities through automation and partnerships, and drive measurable business outcomes for our clients.
This leader will also play a critical role in identifying and bridging operational gaps between the Audience Activation team and Client Services to ensure audience strategies are well understood, integrated, and effectively pitched across client touchpoints.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Define and execute the strategic roadmap for the Audience Activation team, ensuring growth, innovation, scalability, and alignment with overall agency goals.
- Serve as the agency’s subject-matter expert in addressable and audience activation strategies, guiding thought leadership and innovation.
- Anticipate shifts in the addressable media and data landscape and proactively adapt strategy, tools, and offerings accordingly.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a team across channels including Display, Video, Audio, and Direct Mail.
- Foster a high-performance culture rooted in innovation, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Promote cross-channel fluency to ensure teams think holistically about audience activation rather than operating in silos.
Operational & Cross-Functional Alignment
- Identify and address operational gaps cross-functionally, ensuring streamlined processes, knowledge transfer, and collaboration.
- Partner with Client Experience leadership to develop scalable enablement tools, playbooks, and training that empower account teams to confidently sell and position audience activation solutions.
- Improve workflows, communication, and handoffs to support flawless execution from strategy through delivery.
Scalability & Automation
- Identify opportunities to scale activation tactics and team workflows through automation, standardized processes, and centralized tools.
- Champion the adoption of technology and process improvements that reduce manual effort, minimize errors, and increase speed to market.
- Balance innovation with operational rigor to ensure solutions are scalable, sustainable, and profitable.
Technology & Platform Oversight
- Oversee the performance and strategic use of activation platforms including DSPs, data onboarding solutions, and proprietary tools (e.g., FullThrottle NOVA).
- Continuously evaluate new platforms, data providers, and technology partners to enhance audience reach, targeting precision, measurement, and cost efficiency.
- Collaborate with data, analytics, and leadership teams to ensure best-in-class targeting, identity resolution, and attribution capabilities.
Partnership Management & Innovation
- Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with key media, data and technology partners.
- Identify and test emerging solutions that unlock access to new or underserved audiences.
Performance Management & Best Practices
- Ensure that activation strategies are executed according to industry and agency best practices.
- Oversee performance monitoring, insights delivery, and optimization recommendations for all audience-led campaigns.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in omnichannel strategy, programmatic buying, and audience activation, with 5+ years in a leadership capacity.
- Deep expertise in display, video, and audio activation channels, with hands-on knowledge of audience segmentation and addressable media tactics.
- Proven track record of scaling operational teams and building processes that drive automation and efficiency.
- Strong understanding of media platforms, DSPs, CDPs, and data management ecosystems.
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in managing external vendors and forging strategic partnerships.
- Strong analytical mindset and ability to translate data into actionable insights.
- Proven ability to lead and scale high-performing teams in fast-paced, evolving environments.
- Strong operational mindset with experience building processes, automation, and scalable frameworks.
