General Description
The Native Collective Research Effort to Enhance Wellness (NCREW) addresses overdose, substance use, mental health, and pain management programs that are funded by NIH’s Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) Initiative, which bolsters research across NIH to improve both prevention and treatment for opioid misuse and addiction and pain management. The NCREW Program seeks to support Tribes and Native American Serving Organizations (T/NASOs) in responding to the opioid/drug public health emergency through grant-funded research projects aimed at addressing overdose, substance use and pain, and related factors such as mental health or wellbeing. This position is located within the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Health Service (ASTHS) at the Little Axe, OK, location. The Director of Behavioral Health NIH NCREW Grant is responsible for partnering with the Director of Behavioral Health Services, Executive Director, Medical Director, and the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma Council to align, support, manage, and expand the Behavioral Health NIH NCREW Grant. The overarching goal is to advance a comprehensive research, prevention, and treatment program that serves Absentee Shawnee Tribal members as well as current and future ASTHS patients. The Director will also serve as a primary point of communication with Tribes and tribal behavioral and physical health programs.
Responsibilities & Duties
Provide full oversight and management of the Behavioral Health NIH grant.
Ensure that the NIH-funded program supports a holistic research, prevention, and treatment model for tribal members and ASTHS patients.
Develop objectives, timelines, and detailed scopes of work for all NIH grant activities.
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective execution of NIH-funded initiatives.
Plan, implement, and oversee evaluation activities to measure program impact, effectiveness, and compliance with NIH grant expectations.
Establish and strengthen partnerships with tribal entities, government agencies, healthcare systems, and academic or research collaborators relevant to the NIH grant.
Work collaboratively with partners to enhance behavioral health research and service delivery for tribal communities.
Communicate NIH grant goals, progress, findings, and outcomes to tribal leadership, healthcare providers, researchers, and other stakeholders.
Conduct presentations, workshops, and training sessions related to NIH grant initiatives and best practices in behavioral health.
Advocate for resources and support to address behavioral health challenges affecting tribal members.
Monitor all NIH grant activities to ensure strict compliance with NIH regulations, objectives, and reporting requirements.
Prepare timely and accurate reports, updates, and presentations for internal leadership, tribal governance, and NIH representatives.
Provide strategic leadership to advance innovative, evidence-based approaches for improving behavioral health outcomes through the NIH grant.
Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment across ASTHS programs and with external partners.
Manage the NIH nd pain management. The N to reinforce the expectations grant budget, ensuring all expenditures are appropriate, allowable, and aligned with NIH requirements.
Stay current with trends and developments in behavioral health research, prevention, and treatment.
Participate in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to grant management and behavioral health.
Monitor staff performance closely to ensure alignment with organizational goals, NIH grant requirements, and quality standards.
Recruit, hire, and train staff members as needed to support NIH grant activities.
Provide ongoing supervision, mentoring, and professional development opportunities for staff.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to ensure high performance and accountability.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements and Qualifications
Education and Qualifications
Master’s degree in related field (healthcare administration, research, psychology, public health, nursing, behavioral health)
Track record of applicable experience.
Doctoral degree preferred.
Proficiency in project management, group facilitation, creation of educational materials, training, content creation, prevention program development, prevention evaluation, strategic planning, program implementation, and data collection, analysis, and presentation.
Program management experience in the healthcare field, preferred.
Understand principles, practices and techniques of project planning, development, evaluation, procedures of budget preparation and monitoring, and contracted services.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Advanced computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, SmartSheet, survey software, statistics programs, program management software, EMRs, informatics/data analysis etc.)
Financial management skills to track grant budgets and expenditures.
Project management skills to oversee grant activities and meet deadlines.
Detail-oriented approach to ensure compliance with grant/IRB guidelines and manage multiple responsibilities.
Willingness to take initiative, high level of self-motivation, and ease working independently or as part of a team.
Ability to think critically, acts decisively, and synthesizes program and operational issues.
Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, and stooping; good finger dexterity and sensory perception; frequent repetitive motions; as well as talking, hearing, and visual acuity are required.
