Position Description

Position Title: Director of Business

Reports Directly To: Provost

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary: $70,000

Position Summary:

The Director of Business provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the University’s Business programs, including undergraduate, MBA, and the DBA programs. This role is responsible for academic quality, faculty leadership, curriculum oversight, enrollment collaboration, and student success initiatives across all Business offerings.

The Director serves as the academic leader for the Business portfolio and works closely with the Provost, appropriate Deans, Registrar, Admissions, Institutional Effectiveness, and Marketing to ensure program integrity, growth, compliance, and continuous improvement. The Director must be a student-centered, data-informed leader committed to academic excellence, retention, and graduation outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities:

Academic Leadership & Program Oversight

  • Provide leadership and oversight of all Business programs (Undergraduate, MBA, DBA).
  • Ensure curriculum alignment, academic rigor, and consistency across modalities (online, hybrid, or face-to-face).
  • Lead curriculum review, revision, and development in partnership with faculty and the Office of the Provost.
  • Oversee course scheduling and faculty assignments to ensure appropriate coverage and instructional quality.
  • Monitor program outcomes and implement continuous improvement strategies.

Faculty Leadership

  • Recommend hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and evaluating faculty committed to student success.
  • Provide supervision and support to all faculty.
  • Ensure faculty compliance with university policies, academic standards, and instructional expectations.
  • Promote engagement in assessment, program review, and accreditation activities.

Student Success & Academic Operations

  • Utilize data (retention metrics, D/F reports, student feedback, completion rates) to inform decision-making.
  • Collaborate with academic support services to identify and implement strategies that support persistence and graduation.
  • Oversee academic planning processes, including course credit evaluations and individualized learning plans (ILPs) where applicable.
  • Address student academic concerns and ensure timely resolution in alignment with university policy.

Accreditation & Compliance

  • Support annual program review and institutional assessment processes.
  • Participate in accreditation activities, including complex report writing, and ensure Business programs remain compliant with state, federal, and accreditor requirements.
  • Follow established systems, policies, and procedures to ensure regulatory alignment.

Strategic Growth & External Engagement

  • Collaborate with Admissions and Marketing to ensure accurate program representation and competitive positioning.
  • Identify opportunities for program expansion, innovation, and enrollment growth.
  • Strengthen the reputation of the Business programs through academic excellence and external engagement.

Position Qualifications:

  • Earned terminal degree in Business or a closely related field (DBA, PhD, or equivalent preferred; required for oversight of doctoral programs).
  • Prior experience in academic leadership (Program Director, Department Chair, Associate Dean, or similar).
  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; doctoral supervision experience preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across academic and administrative divisions.
  • Commitment to fostering innovation, transparency, and equity through data-informed decision-making.
  • Strong understanding of accreditation, assessment, and higher education regulatory environments.
  • Ability to lead in a fast-paced, growth-oriented university environment.
