Director of Business Development - Clinical Research (CRO)

We are seeking an energetic and strategic Director of Business Development to lead our clinical research services division within a Contract Research Organization (CRO), with proven experience in this field. In this pivotal role, you will drive growth by identifying new business opportunities, cultivating strong client relationships, and expanding our presence in the clinical research industry. Your leadership will ensure the delivery of innovative solutions that meet the pharmaceutical companies needs while aligning with our company's strategic goals. About Us

We are a rapidly growing, physician-led clinical research organization focused on delivering high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered clinical trial execution. We are a established Traumatic Brain Injury Center in NYC adding an arm to our team in the clinical trials business. As a startup, we are building a scalable platform to partner with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies across Phase I–IV trials. Our mission is to accelerate the development of innovative therapies through operational excellence, strong site performance, and strategic sponsor partnerships.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly driven and well-connected Director of Business Development with proven experience in B2B and pharmaceutical / the clinical trials market, to lead sponsor acquisition and revenue growth. This individual will play a critical role in establishing and expanding relationships with pharmaceutical and biotech companies, securing clinical trial opportunities, and shaping the company’s commercial strategy.

The ideal candidate brings an existing network within pharma/biotech, a proven track record in CRO or site network sales, and the ability to independently generate and close new business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, target, and secure new business opportunities with pharmaceutical and biotechnology sponsors
  • Develop and maintain long-term strategic partnerships with key industry stakeholders
  • Lead the full business development lifecycle, including:
  • Prospecting and pipeline development
  • RFP/RFI responses
  • Proposal development and bid defense meetings
  • Contract negotiation and deal closing
  • Collaborate with clinical operations to assess protocol feasibility and align sponsor needs with site capabilities
  • Represent the company at industry conferences, networking events, and sponsor meetings
  • Build and manage a robust pipeline to meet and exceed revenue targets
  • Provide market intelligence and competitive insights to inform company strategy

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MPH, or related) preferred
  • 5–10+ years of experience in business development within a CRO, site network, or life sciences organization
  • Demonstrated success in securing clinical trial contracts with pharmaceutical/biotech companies
  • Established network of sponsor and/or CRO contacts
  • Strong understanding of clinical trial processes (Phase I–IV), regulatory landscape, and site operations
  • Proven ability to manage complex sales cycles and close high-value deals
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills

Pay: $90,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
