Position: Director of Communications

Position Summary

Nebraska Farm Bureau is looking for a skilled communicator and storyteller to help shape the organization’s engagement with members, media, and the public.

The ideal candidate is a strong writer, detail-oriented professional, and digital-savvy communicator who is comfortable working across social, web, email, and member communication platforms.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work while growing skills in media relations and strategic communications. This position reports to the senior director of marketing and communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write and edit news releases, media statements, feature stories, and web content
  • Translate complex policy, legislative, and agricultural topics into clear, engaging content
  • Manage and grow social media content while developing and executing campaigns that drive engagement
  • Bring forward creative ideas and communication opportunities that support organizational priorities
  • Support media relations efforts, including responding to inquiries and pitching stories
  • Create and edit short-form video content for digital platforms
  • Post and manage content on the website
  • Support email marketing and digital campaigns

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, agricultural communications, public relations, or related field
  • Five years of experience in communications, journalism, public affairs, or related field
  • Demonstrated ability to write for multiple audiences and platforms
  • Experience working with media or in a newsroom, PR, or policy environment
  • Experience managing organizational social media accounts
  • Experience shooting/editing short-form video content
  • Strong attention to detail, deadlines, and organizational voice

Preferred

  • Background or strong familiarity with agriculture, rural issues, or public policy/legislative topics
  • Experience with email marketing, digital ads, and web content management
  • Experience creating social media graphics (Canva or similar) and familiarity with advanced photo/video editing tools (Adobe Creative Suite or similar)

Additional Details

  • Lincoln, Nebraska in-office preferred; flexible work arrangements may be considered based on candidate experience and organizational needs
  • Occasional travel required
