Overview
The Director of Communications serves as the creative and strategic leader for all internal and external communications at First UMC. This role ensures that the message of the church is clearly, consistently, and effectively shared to inspire engagement, deepen discipleship, andextend the church’s reach into the community. The Director will align all communications with the mission, vision, and values of FUMC and the United Methodist Church.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Leadership
· Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that supports the church’s mission and ministry goals by partnering with pastors, ministry staff, and lay leaders to promote church-wide events, ministries, and initiatives.
· Serve as brand steward, ensuring consistent tone, design, and messaging across all platforms.
· Oversee the Technology and Worship Technology Team and all Sunday digital worship elements, utilizing ProPresenter and other programs, including livestreaming.
· Attend weekly staff and worship meetings, including regular quarterly planning and calendaring meetings (in person or virtually.)
Digital & Print Media
· Oversee the church website: design, content updates, SEO, and functionality.
· Manage all social media channels, creating content that is timely, engaging, and mission driven.
· Produce weekly e-newsletters, worship bulletins, sign-ups, and other regular communication pieces, including a quarterly magazine.
· Design promotional materials (print and digital) for sermon series, events, and ministries.
· Manage the church app and subsequent software.
Support preschool with any digital or print communication needs
Qualifications
o Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field (or equivalent experience).
o Demonstrated success in communications, preferably in a nonprofit or church setting.
o Proficiency with digital media tools (social media platforms, email marketing, website CMS, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva).
o Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
o Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively.
o Familiarity with the United Methodist Church preferred.

Pay: $17,680.00 - $22,880.00 per year
