The Director of Communications and Marketing directs the ASRA Pain Medicine communications and marketing strategy. This individual supervises membership and communications staff and reports to the Executive Director.
Primary Responsibilities
Strategic Development
- Works with Executive Director and the Director of Education and Operations to develop and implement the organizational strategic plan.
- Partners with the Director of Education and Operations to provide cross-functional oversight and design compelling campaigns and outreach strategies.
- Provides overall strategic and operational leadership and accountability for communication and marketing efforts targeted to various audiences, including members, nonmembers, industry, and the public.
- Establishes and monitors key performance indicators and identifies areas for improvement as needed.
Membership, Marketing, and Communications
- Develops and directs the annual membership marketing plan, in collaboration with the Membership Manager and Communications Manager to grow membership with measurable and attainable goals.
- Develops and directs marketing campaigns for ASRA Pain Medicine conferences, workshops, and other projects in collaboration with the Communications Manager to achieve strategic priorities of increased brand awareness and visibility.
- Manages overall organizational communication and marketing strategy in collaboration with the Communications Manager.
- Evaluates budgets for membership, mobile applications, public relations, newsletter, website, and other projects as directed, ensuring compliance with projected revenue goals.
- Supervises the Membership Manager and Communications Manager, creating goals, completing evaluations, and directing activities to achieve the society’s strategic priorities and goals.
- Produce ASRA Pain Medicine Digest e-newsletter (or other product[s]) to keep audiences informed.
- Assist with all communications and marketing activities as needed.
Mobile Applications/Podcasts
- Manages the updates and maintenance of all ASRA Pain Medicine mobile applications, tracks usage, and develops promotional campaigns for societies initiatives to users.
- ASRA Pain Medicine created apps (Coags, LAST, Timeout)
i. Oversees member list management and/or integration with the ASRA Coags app.
- Membership app (MobileUp)
i. Maintain and regularly update the society app to ensure smooth performance and functionality
- Annual meeting app (Cadmium-Eventscribe)
i. Design, update, and support the launch of the meeting app and troubleshoot issues as they arise
- Serves as the in-house staff contact for all app questions.
- Lead the planning, production, and distribution of the organization’s podcast, RAPP.
- Coordinate with hosts and guests to ensure timely and high-quality episodes.
- Oversee editing, publishing, and promotion of podcast episodes across all relevant platforms.
- Monitor performance metrics (downloads, listens, audience engagement) and adjust strategies accordingly.
Editorial/Writing
- Develops and maintains the ASRA Pain Medicine Style Guide in conjunction with the Communications Manager.
- Copyedits/proofreads Board correspondence, position statements, marketing messages, emails, etc.as assigned.
- Writes copy for news items, blog posts, news releases, marketing pieces, email blasts, etc.
- Contracts and oversee the work of contract medical writers/editors as needed.
- Serve as in-house expert on permissions and use of copyrighted materials.
Public Relations/Advertising
- Serves as primary contact for media and coordinates media responses in conjunction with President and Executive Director.
- Produces press releases and oversees public relations and advocacy campaigns as needed.
- Develops talking points for leadership on key ASRA Pain Medicine messaging.
- Provides crisis management expertise when society issues arise.
- Collaborates with the Exhibitions Account Executive on prospectus development and advertising partnerships
- Solicits and leads advertising purchases and barters.
Supports the activities and priorities of the society with other work as assigned.
Skills and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree required
· CAE certification a plus
· At least seven years’ experience in communications, marketing, or equivalent experience in an association or society
· Ability to demonstrate diplomacy, discretion, and independent judgment
· Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to interact successfully with internal and external contacts
· Ability to prioritize, plan, and carry out responsibilities independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
· Experience with Google Analytics, SEO desired
· Experience working with designers, basic design software; Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop) a plus
· Experience managing and maintaining a website content management system
· Ability to travel, work overtime, and lift up to 50 pounds, as necessary
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
