About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to lead and strengthen the accounting operations of a growing multifamily construction and real estate development organization. This role is ideal for either a highly experienced Senior Construction Accountant ready to step into a leadership position or an established Director of Construction Accounting seeking a strategic role with significant visibility and impact.

The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in construction accounting, job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and Sage-based accounting systems. Multifamily construction experience is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting functions related to construction and development projects
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
• Prepare and review WIP schedules and percentage-of-completion accounting
• Monitor project budgets, forecasts, and cost-to-complete reporting
• Ensure accuracy of job cost allocations and project profitability analysis
• Lead preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules
• Manage cash flow forecasting and construction draw processes
• Coordinate external audits, tax reporting, and lender requirements
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff
• Partner with project managers, operations teams, and executive leadership
• Develop and improve accounting controls, procedures, and reporting systems
• Support acquisition, development, and construction financing activities

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 8+ years of accounting experience
• 5+ years of construction accounting experience
• Advanced proficiency with Sage Construction software (Sage 300 CRE / Timberline preferred)
• Strong knowledge of:
• Job Cost Accounting
• Work-in-Progress (WIP) Reporting
• Percentage-of-Completion Accounting
• Construction Draws
• General Ledger Management
• Financial Statement Preparation
• Experience managing multiple concurrent projects
• Strong Excel and financial reporting skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with multifamily, mixed-use, or large-scale residential construction projects
• CPA designation
• Experience overseeing accounting teams
• Background working for a General Contractor, Construction Manager, or Multifamily Developer
• Familiarity with lien releases, retention, subcontractor compliance, and AIA billing
• Experience with multi-entity accounting structures

Compensation

We are open to candidates ranging from highly experienced Senior Construction Accountants to Director-level accounting leaders.

Salary Range: $100,000 – $250,000+
