We are seeking a motivated, creative, self-starter to oversee donor cultivation, major gift efforts, fundraising (including volunteer leadership), and professional growth of development staff. The Director of Development is responsible for expanding and diversifying the organization’s base of support annually. The Director oversees activities related to fundraising, including the annual fund, special events, third-party events, and appeals. The position is responsible for overall development strategy, donor recruitment and stewardship, marketing and communications, and storytelling. They report to the Executive Director and are a member of the MH Leadership Team, and they lead and supervise the development team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Vision and Strategy:
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures for the Development Department.
- Develop and implement a strategic and diversified outreach and fundraising plan and calendar that meets annual goals and anticipates future needs and growth objectives
- Establish a clear donor cultivation plan and utilize Moves Management on Donor Perfect to implement it
- Maintain awareness of outreach, development, and fundraising best practices and philanthropic trends
Donor Stewardship and Fundraising:
- Provide introductions for the Executive Director to create and cultivate community relationships and stakeholders.
- Identify potential donors, strengthen relationships with current donors, and execute personalized outreach to foster sustained philanthropic support for Magdalena House.
- Secure partnerships with corporations and foundations to support the mission of Magdalena House
- Raise awareness of Magdalena House in the San Antonio community.
- Execute, with the support of the Development Manager, the spring fundraising event and annual gala.
- Recruit and manage gala committee.
- Support Director of Grants in reviewing and editing all grant applications and reports
- Publicize and expand legacy giving campaign
- Facilitate quarterly “taco breakfast” tours with potential donors
Communications and Marketing
- Be the “Chief Storyteller” of Magdalena House, crafting all written messaging including appropriate updates to acknowledgement letters
- Oversee fundraising materials (printed and e-versions) including but not limited to annual report, promotional materials, quarterly “love letters,” email campaigns and newsletters, event promotions, and website.
- Create monthly e-blast for Magdalena House supporters
- With the support of the Development Manager, oversee production of print and AV materials for fundraising and other events
- With the support of the Development Manager, oversee integrity of information and/or execute and maintain social media sites.
Organizational Leadership
- Supervise Development Manager and ensure they are equipped, supported, and understand role and assignments
- Manage Development budget to ensure revenue and expenses are on track year-to-date
- Along with other departmental directors, serve and contribute to the Leadership Team
- Report monthly on recent outreach efforts, fundraising events, and donor trends to the Board of Directors
- Coordinate quarterly meetings of the Annual Fund Committee to support development efforts, receive feedback, and strategize development initiatives
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- Committed to a life of faith and a passion to work for the good of mothers and children
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as marketing/communications, business, or journalism.
- 3-4 years’ experience in the non-profit Development field or equivalent.
- Ability to develop and empower a team and serve in an executive leadership role.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, including managing, expanding and cultivating donor relationships to increase financial support of organization.
- Familiarity of legalities surrounding non-profit fundraising activities.
- Demonstrated experience with public speaking and writing skills.
- Experience in coordination of large events and volunteer development.
- Impeccable organization and time-management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365/database software (Donor Perfect & Givesmart a plus).
- Available to work occasional nights/weekends to manage events.
- Knowledge of the local community.
