Director of Development and Communications Job Description

Position Summary:

The Director of Development and Communications is a full-time exempt position that reports to the Chief Operating Officer. The Director of Development and Communications will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer to support and execute an annual work plan that includes revenue generation, special event fundraising, grant writing, donor engagement, database management, and community relations to achieve fundraising priorities and goals.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the Chief Operating Officer, develop and execute annual actions plans to successfully reach quarterly and annual metrics and deliverables.
  • Lead and support grant-related activities in partnership with the Chief Operating Officer, including prospective research, proposal development, narrative writing, data collection, reporting, and stewardship of grant-funded relationships.
  • Coordinate fundraiser event logistics. Responsibilities could include developing and monitoring event project timelines and implementation. Negotiate with vendors to achieve favorable prices that ensure adherence to established budget. Execute constituent engagement plan using various electronic systems.
  • Continually monitor and update constituent database; develop and run reports to facilitate donor engagement and stewardship.
  • Oversee the creation of marketing content, including blogs, social media posts, email campaigns, and monthly newsletter.
  • Support the Chief Operating Officer in the execution of the Homeless Contribution Tax Credit Program. Responsibilities could include data intake, data monitoring, and reporting.
  • Oversee the company’s presence on social media platforms and developing strategies to

engage audiences.

  • Serve as a point of contact between staff, leadership, partners, donors and other people. This will include working across a variety of communication platforms like email, video conferencing, and instant messaging to collaborate with colleagues and engage with customers.
  • Responsible for all mailing lists. This includes renewals, invitations, direct mail correspondence, mail mergers and other administrative responsibilities.
  • Research and schedule community presentations to raise the profile of RecoveryWorks and grow corporate and individual donors. Support the Chief Operating Officer to research, cultivate, steward and advance relationships with corporate partners.
  • Continually update the communications calendar to support the successful dissemination of weekly social media posts and monthly newsletters.
  • Continually monitor government, private foundations, and corporations to update

RecoveryWorks’ grant calendar. Prepare sections of grant applications or reports upon request. Continually update population data resources, and work with program staff to capture program goals and deliverables to author compelling grant applications.

  • Respond to inquiries, facilitate information transfer, and monitor project outcomes for RW contractors, board members, staff leadership and community partners.
  • Research industry trends, prospective accounts, and other topics as needed.
  • Actively participate in building a culture of philanthropy by building dynamic and impactful volunteers and engaged staff members.
  • Complete special projects assigned by the Chief Operating Officer.
  • This position may oversee staff as the Development and Communications team expands, including contributing to onboarding, training, and ongoing supervision.

Position Requirements:

  • Participation in RECOVERYWORKS all staff in person events which may require travel
  • Colorado residency and ability to relocate to Lakewood Colorado or Denver Metro area
  • Provide proof of legal ability to work in the United State of America
  • Provide two references
  • Ability to work remotely with reliable Internet service and a reasonable remote workspace to conduct business calls
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Consent to and pass a background check
  • Valid Driver’s License, a vehicle to drive for RecoveryWorks and proof of insurance

Skills Required:

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Bloomerang or other Development software
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Grant writing experience required.

•Ability to both engage professionally with RecoveryWork’s staff members and donors.

•Skill in operating office equipment, including computers (including e-mail), software (e.g.,Microsoft Word, Excel) and telephones.

•Able to maintain client confidentiality.

•Able to maintain a flexible work schedule.

•Knowledge, work history and/or education specific to milieu management, day-centeroperations, addiction, mental health, housing and homelessness.

Skills Preferred:

•Bilingual/Spanish or Other

Qualification Requirements – Educations and/or Equivalent Experience

•Experience and interest working with disenfranchised persons

•Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism or Social Work

•Master’s degree Preferred

•2+ years of development or communications experience

•Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills. A team player with a positiveattitude; comfortable working with all levels of staff.

Work Location, Schedule, and Environment:

•Navigation Center and hybrid remote

•Flexibility and capacity to work in a fast paced, fluid, changing work environment

•Administrative tasks will require work in a home office or office setting

•Working on a computer for multiple hours at a time, sitting or standing

•Wearing a mask when required by RECOVERYWORKS policies

•Bending, twisting, and lifting associated with event site setup

•Indoor/outdoor work with varying temperatures and noise levels

Compensation:

Annual Salary: $80,000-$95,000 Bi-weekly pay periods

Benefits:

Full-time Regular Benefits: medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee plus one; IRA with up to 3% employer’s match and 11 paid holidays, 2 paid Personal Days, accrued Health Time and Vacation Time Off.
