Director of Development and Communications

Position Overview

The Pottstown Regional Public Library (PRPL) seeks an experienced and dynamic Director of Development & Communications to lead the library’s fundraising, donor relations, board communications, and marketing efforts. This senior leadership role will play a critical part in ensuring PRPL’s financial sustainability, community visibility, and long-term growth.

This position will oversee all aspects of fundraising, including annual giving, major gifts, grants, corporate and foundation support, and special events, while also managing strategic communications that strengthen the library’s brand and community presence. This position reports to the Library Director and works closely with the Board of Directors, specifically the Treasurer and the Development Committee.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising & Development

● Cultivate and steward relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors.

● Lead all grant research, writing, submissions, and reporting.

● Ensure grant prioritization is mission focused and informed by the Strategic Plan.

● Oversee donor database management (Bloomerang), ensuring accuracy, reporting, and timely acknowledgments.

● Design and execute annual giving campaigns, major gift solicitations, and planned giving initiatives.

● Plan and manage all fundraising events, including logistics, sponsorships, donor engagement, and follow-up.

● Participate in departmental budget meetings to gain insight into grant requests.

● Attends meetings and supports the initiatives of the Friends of the PRPL group.

Board Relations & Reporting

● Serve as primary staff liaison to the Development Committee of the Board of Directors.

● Attends monthly Board meetings and provides regular fundraising updates, progress reports, and donor insights to the Board and its committees as requested.

● Partner with the Board to engage board members in donor cultivation and fundraising activities.

● Collaborate with the Board of Directors and Development Committee to develop and implement a comprehensive annual fundraising strategy to meet revenue goals.

● In coordination with the Chair of Development, presents an annual development plan at the Board retreat.

● Attends meetings of and supports the Board Fundraising Team.

● Ensure clear, timely communication to board leadership.

Marketing & Communications

● Develop and lead PRPL’s marketing and communications strategy across all platforms (website, email, print, and social media).

● Create compelling donor appeals, newsletters, annual reports, and impact stories.

● Manage public relations efforts to raise visibility and awareness of PRPL’s programs, services, and fundraising priorities.

● Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communications.

Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or CFRE preferred.

● Minimum of 5–7 years of professional experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or communications, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.

● Proven success in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

● Strong experience in grant writing and foundation relations.

● Demonstrated ability to lead fundraising events and campaigns.

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

● Familiarity with donor database systems (Bloomerang or similar).

● Strong organizational, analytical, and leadership skills.

● Ability to work collaboratively with board members, staff, volunteers, and community partners.

● Commitment to the mission and values of the Pottstown Regional Public Library.

Additional Requirements

● Hybrid role: some work onsite, with flexibility for remote tasks.

● Occasional evening/weekend work required for events.

● Valid PA driver’s license and reliable transportation.

● Must pass criminal background check and child abuse clearances.

Compensation

Salary commensurate with experience, along with a competitive benefits package

Pay: Up to $70,000.00 per year
