The Director of Development and Community Engagement plans, directs, and coordinates activities to solicit and maintain funds for Sunrise Enterprises this also includes fundraising, communications, and community engagement efforts. This position is responsible for securing and stewarding financial resources that support programs serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Director ensures that Sunrise Enterprise’s mission, outcomes, and impact are communicated clearly, consistently, and accurately to funders, donors, and community partners.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or grant management.
  • Proven ability to manage funder relationships and reporting requirements.
  • Strong written communication skills, particularly in grant writing and impact reporting.
  • Knowledge of ethical fundraising standards and nonprofit accountability practices.
  • Strong communication skills; written and verbal.
  • Exceptional skills in community presentations and relationship development.
  • Able to work with limited supervision, displaying initiative and creativity in the workplace.
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft platforms.
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license and insurable to Sunrise insurance carrier.
  • Pass criminal history check, including fingerprints and an additional CJIS background check.
  • Pass drug screen including marijuana/THC.
  • Must have ability and desire to relate to persons with physical/mental disabilities with dignity and respect.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Develop and implement diversified fundraising strategies, including grants, individual giving, and community-based support.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with public and private funders, foundations, donors, and corporate partners.
  • Ensure timely submission of grant proposals, reports, and compliance documentation
  • Maintain ethical fundraising practices and responsible stewardship of contributed revenue.
  • Maintain agency records in a professional manner consistent with prescribed guidelines and expectations.
  • Oversee external communications that clearly convey Sunrise’s mission, programs, and measurable outcomes.
  • Collaborate with program and finance staff to translate service data into clear, funder-appropriate narratives.
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy in messaging across grant proposals, reports, and public-facing materials.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, volunteers, and stakeholders that support organizational goals.
  • Coordinate volunteer engagement activities in alignment with program needs and organizational capacity.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to align development strategies with organizational priorities.
  • Support leadership and board members in funder engagement, cultivation, and relationship-building activities.
  • Maintain systems for tracking fundraising activity, outcomes, and compliance.
  • Attend and participate in required meetings, training, and committees.
  • Serve as a role model for appropriate work behaviors, social skills, respect for others, and cooperation.
  • Perform duties and complete tasks as requested by supervisor in a reasonable amount of time.
  • Maintain agency records in a professional manner consistent with prescribed guidelines and expectations.
  • Do not exceed responsibility/authority delegated to you by supervisor.
  • Exhibit good judgment in situations not specifically covered by agency policy or procedures.
  • Participate in safety and safety programs.
  • Report any safety hazards, accidents, incidents of neglect, abuse, emergencies, or problems to supervisor and/or appropriate person per policy.
  • Meet regular attendance requirements at assigned worksite because job requires face-to-face interaction with clients, customers, or other employees.
