Education: Master’s degree with credentials as an LISW, LPCC, LSW or LPC.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in behavioral health. Working knowledge of the legal system and experience with persons who are court involved is important to the role. Candidate should possess administrative skills in program development and management, as well as staff supervision skills, and community networking.

Qualifications: Skills in assessing and addressing the behavioral health needs of clients referred by the courts for intervention and treatment. Ability to manage the array of services offered in diversion programming at the agency, i.e. Pre-trial Diversion, General Diversion, Theft Counseling and Violence Prevention. Clients referred have a variety of presentations which may range from low end needs requiring monitoring and psychosocial education to higher end needs requiring referral and engagement with mental health or chemical dependency treatment. Must be able to develop appropriate plans for intervention while focusing on reducing the potential for recidivism in the criminal justice system.

Must possess skills in clinical and administrative supervision. Must have the ability to manage and track many tasks simultaneously as well as demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, collaboration, mediation, patience, and organization. Shall be open to the individuality of others and able to establish professional rapport. Shall possess strong oral and writing skills. Understanding the criminal justice/ legal system is key to relating to the specific circumstances of the client as well as in relating to court personnel. Must be able to effectively manage staff and caseload assignments across programs. Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel) as well as electronic health record software.

Subordinates: Administrative Support Staff/ Diversion Clinicians

Position Summary: The Director of Diversion Services provides direct service as well as management of the Pre-trial Diversion, Violence Prevention and Theft Counseling Programs at Alternative Paths. The position is also responsible for administrative functions and clinical supervision of staff in the General Diversion Program. Direct services include; needs assessment, clinical assessment, psychosocial education, counseling, case management, information and referral, and the development of plans for intervention in an effort to prevent recidivism in the criminal justice system. The Director of Diversion Services works closely with the courts in the county to promote the use of Diversion Services, to manage referrals to the programs, and to provide ongoing staffing/ updates on cases once referred. The director engages in ongoing communication with the local courts, attorneys, and prosecutors to ensure that the programs provided fulfill the current needs in the criminal justice system for diversion programming. Completion of any required documentation including program entry, progress/ status updates or completion reports must be managed in a timely and through manner. The director shall work with the courts and agency administration to track any needed data, complete any reports requested, and to fulfill the requirements of any contract agreements or grant funding obligations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and perform intake, screening and assessments on persons referred to diversion programs.
  • Develop an individualized compliance plan with the client based on presented needs.
  • Provide psychosocial education, individual counseling, or group counseling based on program need.
  • Coordinate/ provide crisis intervention services if needed.
  • Provide intervention/ education services to clients/ families/ significant others as needed.
  • Monitor compliance with community based treatment resources.
  • Provide services such as linkage with resources needed to be successful in the community whether it is treatment, housing, social supports, vocational, education, etc.
  • Assist clients in developing skills to support their independence, healthy living, enhanced relations with others, and resistance of re-engagement in illicit activity.
  • Consult regularly with criminal justice professionals, i.e. judges, prosecutors, probation officers to address referrals, client participation and general program information.
  • Provide clinical and administrative supervision to subordinates according to state licensure rules.
  • Attend agency staff, department, and supervision meetings. Attend professional development in-services and continuing education as required by agency policy as well as professional licensure standards.
  • Abide by agency policies and procedures.
  • Work with the courts as well as agency administrators to seek resources for grants and funding relevant to the maintenance and or expansion of services.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation in client files. Oversee data collection to provide reports required by the agency, courts, county and any funding resources.
  • Develop an understanding of the budgets associated with the Diversion Programs and works to ensure budget management.
  • Provide clinical and administrative supervision to the clinicians in General Diversion.
  • Provide training/ education to the community as well as criminal justice system about the diversion programs as well as education about the needs of clients served.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and cooperative spirit in working with fellow staff, clients, and other professionals in the community.
  • Consults with and advises to the CEO changes or problems identified in policies/procedures relating to the operations of the department or corporation.
  • Complete required documentation of services provided. Review documentation of subordinates to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $64,000.00 per year
