Position Purpose
Under the direction of the AVP for Student Affairs / Dean of Students, the Director provides strategic leadership and supervision of the department as it serves both international and domestic students of diverse backgrounds and identities, providing opportunities to support academic success, student engagement, and persistence, while celebrating the life cycle of the student. The Director serves as a leader on campus to ensure the success, engagement and retention of international, underrepresented, and underserved students. The Director collaborates with campus partners on the implementation of Equity 2030 to reduce equity gaps in student learning and achievement, as well as create a sense of belonging and community for students. The Director oversees compliance with immigration regulations, study abroad program offerings, and support services to international students.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership to Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Global Engagement and the specific areas of international student support, study abroad initiatives, and student support for domestic diverse student populations. (70%)

  • Initiate and create a strategic plan for carrying out this vision that is congruent with the
  • mission/values of the university.
  • Provide leadership in implementing the departmental strategic plan and retention initiatives
  • Provide leadership in the management of the operation of historically underrepresented and international student programs and services
  • Provide leadership for the growth and expansion of global engagement programs, including the development of strategic goals to increase student participation in study abroad programs, recruitment for the National Student Exchange, and the retention of Historically Underrepresented and International Students.
  • Manage a balanced portfolio of programs in response to the evolving academic needs and strategic vision of the institution
  • Oversee and provide direction for Center staff.
  • Oversee annual budget for the Center
  • Work with University Advancement to identify gift opportunities
  • Serve as liaison with Admission Office to provide prospective diverse students and families
  • with information regarding campus resources.
  • Coordinate recruitment activities, such as SOAR, Preview Days, and prospective student
  • visits.
  • Serves as liaison between the Financial Aid Office, Business Services, Alumni Foundation, students, staff, faculty, and community to provide information and resources for scholarship programs and diverse scholarship recipients.
  • Develop and maintain institutional partnerships with program partners worldwide
  • Oversee program evaluation and assessment

Compliance and Risk Management (15%)
  • Provide leadership and support for the Assistant Director for International Student Support who serves as Primary Designated School Officer (PDSO) and monitors SEVP and SEVIS processes and requirements.
  • Provide leadership and support to the Education Abroad & Away Coordinator in managing exchange agreements, responding to study abroad crisis issues, ensuring emergency protocols are up-to-date, collecting data for program improvement and compliance, and coordinating with academic programs for faculty-led study abroad programs
  • Collaborate with the Admissions Office and Graduate Studies in directing the international and
  • underrepresented student admissions process for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Develop collaborative professional relationships with colleagues in the Student
Affairs Leadership Team and other partners (15%)
  • Work as an integral, engaged member of the Division of Academic and Student Affairs to develop retention strategies and programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the University, division and departmental
  • strategic priorities and initiatives.
  • Represent the interests and promote the visibility of the Minnesota State
  • Moorhead international student populations by serving on various campus committees and
  • working groups.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary Range
$54,344-$116,608 annually
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree plus 3 years of advanced professional experience in Education or related field OR Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of advanced professional experience in Education or related field OR an equivalent combination of post-secondary training, education and/or advanced professional experience.
  • Experience with campus internationalization efforts in higher education
  • International experience and demonstrated intercultural competence
  • Experience in compliance and risk management as they apply to regulations governing visas
  • Experience in working with diverse populations of faculty, staff, and students
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with education abroad programs and international education
  • Working knowledge of SEVIS/DSO role
  • Experience with historically underrepresented student populations.
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident as required by the Department of Homeland Security to serve as DSO.
  • Experience related to budget planning and management
  • Demonstrated leadership, management and supervisory skills, including performance appraisal
  • Demonstrated communication and networking skills
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills
