Director of DIY Fundraising

United States

WHO WE ARE:
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. Staff members engage volunteers through effective and timely communications, facilitating meaningful opportunities, and continually seeking and providing feedback for reciprocal growth and learning.
Job Summary:
Serves as a Subject Matter Expert and leads the execution of DIY product based campaigns such as golf fundraisers, endurance, content creators, community fundraisers, galas, and tournaments. As the senior fundraiser in the market, this role is accountable for achieving revenue goals through donor cultivation, team and participant activation, and campaign performance. Though not a people manager, the Director sets the pace and standard for fundraising execution—partnering with the AVP and coordinating efforts across the market team to ensure strong results and donor experiences.
This structure allows experienced fundraisers to focus on strategic leadership and collaboration, while supporting a more scalable management model across regions.
We are actively hiring for three (3) openings for this position.
Main Responsibilities:
  • Drive revenue growth and achieve fundraising goals through the strategic planning and management of DIY fundraisers, top fundraisers, team captains, and local sponsors/donors.
  • Serve as the market’s subject matter expert on assigned fundraising products, customizing national strategies to fit the local context while aligning with regional objectives and donor trends.
  • Provide ongoing consultation and best practices to fundraisers, including co-hort development, peer learning opportunities, and community-building among like fundraisers to boost retention and engagement.
  • Oversee key projects such as digital kit creation and playbook development to ensure fundraisers and staff have the tools they need for success.
  • Collaborate regularly with assigned Executive Directors (monthly or more frequent) to plan and implement DIY fundraising activities and campaigns at the market level.
  • Partner with the AVP to monitor pacing, surface risks, and adjust execution to achieve or exceed fundraising goals.
  • Ensure accurate reporting and accountability by maintaining dashboards, revenue updates, and activity tracking within defined standard operations and CRM systems.
  • Foster cross-team alignment and shared accountability by coordinating frontline activity, reinforcing collective goals, and supporting peer fundraisers in execution.
  • Leverage performance data and campaign dashboards to inform decisions, identify opportunities, and continuously improve fundraising tactics and community engagement.
What We're Looking For:
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in fundraising, donor relations, or nonprofit development, with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals.
  • Demonstrated success in managing donor pipelines, cultivating major gifts, and executing multi-channel fundraising campaigns.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with experience supervising staff or volunteers and coordinating cross-functional initiatives.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce) and data analysis to inform strategy and reporting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire donors, board members, and community stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and implement long-term fundraising plans aligned with organizational goals.
  • Experience planning and executing donor events, stewardship programs, and grant proposals.
Location Requirements
  • Remote - Flexible Location
  • Work is primarily performed remotely, however, when possible and necessary, teams meet in person to conduct the business of the organization and build team relationships.
