Director of Finance

About the Role:

As we scale, we are seeking a hands-on Director of Finance who is excited about helping build and strengthen the financial infrastructure of a mission-driven organization. This role will partner closely with senior leadership to support sound decision-making and help guide the company through its next stage of growth and impact.


As the operational leader for finance, the ideal candidate is a hands-on builder who thrives in a lean, high-ownership environment and enjoys developing systems, processes, and insights that support a scaling organization.


Our main business office is in Boulder Creek, CA, and the position is remote with possible office attendance, dependent upon location. You must be based in the U.S. to be considered for this
opportunity.


Key Responsibilities:

Accounting & Financial Controls

  • Own the full accounting function
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Safeguard company assets with robust internal controls
  • Oversee external audits, tax filings, and relationships with outside accounting firms
  • Manage and develop the accounting team

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Lead the annual operating planning process and quarterly reforecasting cycles
  • Drive rigorous financial analysis to support decision-making
  • Own budget management and develop short-term (12-month) and long-term (3–5 year) financial models that support strategic decision-making
  • Deliver monthly financial reporting packages with commentary
  • Build and maintain KPI dashboards

Commercial Division Partnership

  • Serve as the primary finance partner to Sales, Marketing, and commercial divisions, supporting pricing strategies, deal structuring, sales compensation modeling, revenue forecasting, and marketing investment analysis
  • Support contract reviews and ensure proper revenue recognition in alignment with ASC 606

Operations Partnership

  • Work with Operations building cost models, managing COGS, and optimizing gross margin
  • Partner on inventory management, supply chain finance, and capital expenditure planning
  • Support new product launches and program expansions with financial modeling

Strategic Leadership

  • Act as a thought leader and finance advisor to cross-functional teams
  • Champion financial discipline and cost management across the organization
  • Lead financial systems identification, implementation, and continuous improvement — including the successful rollout of the new ERP. This person will be expected to embrace technology and play a central role in modernizing our financial infrastructure.
  • Represent Finance in executive meetings and Board-level presentations.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with demonstrated experience in both controller and FP&A functions
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Proven track record of partnering with commercial and operational teams (Sales, Marketing, Operations) in a business-partnering capacity
  • Hands-on experience building financial models and multi-year plans
  • Strong proficiency with ERP systems (Acumatica strongly preferred, NetSuite, SAP, or equivalent) and advanced Excel/Google Sheets; experience leading or actively participating in an ERP implementation is highly valued
  • Exceptional communication skills with an ability to present complex financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders

What We Offer:

This is a full-time, senior leadership position with a competitive annual salary range of $125,000 to $150,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
