Director of Finance
Position Summary
Fowler Brothers Farming Inc. and sister companies located in the Central Valley, California, are seeking a highly motivated and strategic Director of Finance to oversee the financial operations, accounting systems, administrative processes, and long-term financial planning of our growing agricultural business.
This role is responsible for managing the company’s financial health while helping leadership make informed strategic decisions related to growth, profitability, operational efficiency, and expansion. The ideal candidate is both detail-oriented and forward-thinking - capable of overseeing day to day accounting operations while contributing to high-level business planning.
This position will oversee accounting and administrative staff, including the Senior Account and office personnel, while working directly with ownership to improve systems reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and organizational performance.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Working directly with ownership on financial planning and growth strategy
- Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial models
- Assist in evaluating expansion opportunities, acquisitions, and capital investments
- Analyze profitability by ranch, division, and project
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to leadership
- Assist with banking relationships, financing packages, and lender reporting
- Support strategic planning initiatives and operation decision-making
Accounting & Financial Oversight
- Oversee all accounting operations and supervise accounting staff
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Review AP, AR, payroll, cash management, and reporting functions
- Coordinate with external CPAs, tax professionals, and auditors
- Maintain internal controls and accounting procedures
Agricultural & Operational Finance
- Develop and monitor ranch and crop budgets
- Oversee cost accounting and job costing across divisions
- Track equipment, labor, water, and operational costs
- Analyze operations efficiencies and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Assist in developing KPI dashboards and management reporting tools
- Improve financial visibility across all operations
Administration & Organizational Development
- Help streamline administrative systems and office operations
- Assist in implementing SOPs and process improvements
- Support HR, insurance, compliance , and risk management functions
- Assist leadership in scaling operation infrastructure as the company grows
- Help transition the company toward more efficient and paperless systems
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
- 5+ years of accounting or finance leadership experience
- Strong understanding of financial statement and accounting principles
- Experience managing accounting staff and administrative processes
- Advanced Excel/Google Sheets and financial reporting skills
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-pace growth-oriented environment
Preferred
- Experience in agriculture, construction, manufacturing, or related industries
- Experience with multi-entity businesses
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
- CPA, CMA, MBA, or related certifications preferred but not required
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems and process implementation

Salary range: $130,000 - $170,000 DOE
