The role of the Director of Finance and HR is a full-time position providing administrative support to the pastoral staff, corporate administration, and supervision of finance administration. This is a full-time position, serving under the direction of the Senior Pastor. This will require a firm grasp of the beliefs, values, and strategy of FUMC Pearland in carrying out the mission and vision of the church by managing the financial and accounting responsibilities of the organization and by providing administrative support to various other areas as designated.
To be successful in this position, a candidate will need to be flexible and have a positive attitude. The candidate should be able to work with little supervision and be a self-starter.
Responsibilities
- Knowledge of church financial policies and procedures
- Ensures compliance with policies and procedures related to corporate governance
- Manage day to day financial responsibilities
- Manage human resources activities
- Frequent monitoring of cash position
- Month-end closing, account reconciliations, journal entries, and preparation of financial reports
- Process bi-weekly payroll in QuickBooks, quarterly 941s, annual W-2s, and vendor 1099s
- Manage group health plan enrollees and associated payroll liabilities
- Preparation of the annual budget
- Supervise finance assistant
- Attend staff and committee meetings as necessary
- Prepare additional reports as necessary
- Executes strategic administrative goals
- Serve on the Senior Leadership Team
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field
- Experience as a full-charge bookkeeper in a similar role
- Knowledge of full cycle accounting process and adjusting journal entries
- Strong understanding of financial statements
- Knowledge of fund accounting is a plus
- Experience in all areas of QuickBooks accounting and payroll required
- Proficiency in quarterly and year-end payroll reporting, including 1099s
- Knowledge of Texas Payday Law and IRS business and nonprofit regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently, multitask, and prioritize
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, Google G-suite, Adobe Acrobat
This is a full-time, salary exempt position, 37.5 - 40 hours per week.
