About the Role

At California Medical Business Services and The Hill Medical Corporation, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Human Resources to lead our HR team and partner closely with leadership to support a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace across our multi-site, outpatient imaging operations.

The Director of Human Resources provides strategic leadership and hands-on guidance for all Human Resources functions. This role directs planning, goal-setting, and operations of the HR department while fostering an employee-focused culture that supports engagement, development, and compliance.

Key areas of responsibility include organizational development, regulatory compliance, recruiting and staffing, employee relations, performance management, training and development, compensation and benefits, wellness, safety, and employee support services. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to management and a resource for employees across the organization.

Pay Range: $120k-$160k/year

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Partner with executive and operational leadership to develop company goals, workforce strategies, and HR initiatives that support long-term success
  • Lead and manage the Human Resources department, ensuring efficient operations and thoughtful service to employees and managers
  • Work with outside counsel on employment legal matters to mitigate risk. Serve as the primary liaison with labor counsel, regulatory agencies, and external partners
  • Stay current on federal, state, and local employment laws and proactively guide leadership on compliance and best practices
  • Collaborate with leadership to plan staffing needs and recruitment strategies across multiple divisions and locations
  • Oversee employee benefit programs, including health, dental, workers’ compensation, 401(k), and Cafeteria 125 plans, working closely with brokers and vendors
  • Evaluate benefits offerings to balance employee satisfaction, competitiveness, and cost effectiveness
  • Manage workers’ compensation, safety, and training programs to promote a safe and compliant workplace; participate in claims reviews
  • Manage leave of absences, FMLA, CFRA, PDL, ADA, and medical and religious accommodation requests. Participate in the interactive process and documentation of the scenarios
  • Review and guide personnel actions such as promotions, merit increases, transfers, corrective actions, and terminations with fairness, consistency, and care
  • Support managers in performance management, employee development, and conflict resolution
  • Develop and implement policies and programs that promote employee engagement, retention, and high morale
  • Establish and oversee training programs for leadership and staff, including compliance, harassment prevention, interviewing, and performance management
  • Ensure accurate, confidential, and compliant maintenance of personnel records
  • Oversee job descriptions, compensation programs, and incentive initiatives that reward strong performance
  • Maintain HR metrics, reporting, and documentation for operational and regulatory needs
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain relevant professional affiliations

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Healthcare Administration, or related field
  • Minimum of five years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience, including full-scope HR management, including handling employee conflict matters, legal issues, corrective documentation, employee relations investigations, writing effective policies, job descriptions, job design and analysis, wage and salary research and reviews, and employee handbook reviews
  • Strong working knowledge of California and federal employment and labor laws
  • Over five years of experience handling and managing employee relations, investigations, documentation, corrective action, and performance improvement plans
  • Valid California Driver’s License and ability to travel between locations

Preferred

  • Master’s degree and/or HR certification
  • Healthcare or outpatient services HR experience
  • Experience supporting multi-division or multi-site organizations

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment with frequent interaction with employees, leaders, and external partners. The role requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, use standard office equipment, travel between locations, and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
