JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Director of Human Resources
Reports To: Chief Administrative Officer
Department: Human Resources
Classification: Year Round Full Time
FLSA Status: Exempt
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Director of Human Resources will lead and oversee all HR functions, strategies, and initiatives to support the company’s goals and foster a productive, positive workplace culture. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills to manage HR operations, talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compliance, and organizational development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develop and implement engaging and inclusive HR strategies aligned with overall business objectives.

Ensure company compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.

Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensure compliant policies, procedures, and reporting.

Lead recruitment, onboarding, and retention initiatives to attract and keep top talent.

Oversee employee relations, conflict resolution, and promote a positive work environment.

Manage compensation programming including but not limited to base pay, incentives, etc. to ensure competitiveness and compliance.

Direct employee benefits program alongside the Benefits Manager to retain top talent and compliance with laws and regulations.

Design and administer performance management systems including evaluations and feedback.

Plan and facilitate employee training and development programs.

Oversee employee housing strategy and administration to support recruitment and retention goals.

Collaborate with senior leadership on workforce planning and organizational development.

Prepare and manage the HR department budget including benefits and employee housing budgets.

Analyze HR metrics to guide strategic decision making.

Utilize employee feedback from surveys, exit interviews, and other data points to refine human resources strategy to best meet the needs of the employees and the business.

Manage HR team, providing coaching and professional development.

Handle sensitive employee issues with confidentiality and professionalism.

Oversee compliance of leave program administration including FMLA and ADA to ensure employee support and compliance with governmental leave regulations.

Direct the strategic use of technology and the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) to ensure ease of use and efficient and compliant records and reporting.

Collaborates with Leadership team on employee recognition and appreciation programming to drive engagement company-wide.

Works cross-functionally with Communications team to develop an internal communications strategy and campaign.

Direct the onboarding experience for new and returning employees to facilitate culture building and belonging.

Assist Chief Administrative Officer with tasks, as needed.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
-
Assists with creation and implementation of employee policies and the Employee Handbook.

Coordinate with external legal counsel to ensure compliant procedures and practices.

Collaborates with community partners to develop employee programming.
-
Assist with processing employee paperwork as needed.
-
Assist with phone calls and walk ins to the office as needed.

Provide support to JHMR Senior Team and Management as needed.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY:

Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and act upon general business periodicals, professional journals technical procedures, and government regulations.

Ability to calculate figures to administer compensation programming

Must work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Must be able to deal with confidential materials and information professionally.

Strong written and oral communication skills necessary, with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in a public speaking setting.

Must be able to approach confrontation and deal with difficult situations professionally and fairly.

Proficient computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software systems.

Cross-functional collaboration abilities with employees at varying levels within the organization.

Strong knowledge of labor laws and HR best practices.

Valid driver’s license.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates primarily in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses computer and phone. Most work is completed in an indoor environment. Occasional work required in an outdoor environment in the base area and on-mountain. Outdoor environment may cause exposure to extreme temperatures and varying weather.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to sit for long periods of time at a desk and working on a computer.

Occasional walking, moving about on foot.

Extensive use of fingers to type and perform other computer work.

Hearing and ability to receive detailed information through oral communication at normal speaking level.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This job is year-round full time and typically works during daytime business hours. Schedules and hours may fluctuate depending on business need, and overtime should be expected around season openings and deadlines. Work on weekends and holidays may be required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in psychology, human resources, business administration, or related field.

Minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience.
-
Experience with HRIS and talent management systems.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
-
Professional certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR, etc.)
-
Graduate level degree in Human Resources, Law, or Business Administration.
-
Minimum 7-10 years of progressive Human Resources experience.
-
Previous experience in the ski or resort/seasonal industry.
-
Previous experience with ADP HRIS
-
Spanish language proficiency.
