DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY SERVICES

Performs a variety of complex professional and administrative work in planning, developing, scheduling, directing, and implementing library services on-site, on-line and throughout the community.

The employee will have the responsibility of:

• Exercising direct supervision over Circulation, Reference, and Children’s Services staff

• Managing and supervising assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources

• Gathering, interpreting, and preparing data for studies, reports, and recommendations

• Implementation the 5-Year Strategic Plan

• Coordinating department activities with other departments and agencies as needed

• Assuring that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget, performing cost control activities

• Establishing and maintaining cordial working relationships with other City divisions and departments, providing support for research and informational needs

• Preparing a variety of reports and maintains necessary operating records

• Monitoring monthly expenditures

• Preparing specifications for bid items and makes recommendations award of bids for various goods and services

• Preparing and submitting reports on the budget, special library projects, library status and activities, library statistics, and various policy reports

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Graduation from an ALA-accredited master’s degree program required; and

• Five (5) years of experience in library operations including two (2) years supervisory experience

Special Requirements:

• Must have a valid Texas driver’s license within ninety (90) days of hire

• Must have a valid driver’s license by date-of-hire

• Must be bondable.

• Must be available for weekend and evening work when required
