General Summary:
Velocity is seeking a results-driven Director of Managed IT to lead our managed services IT teams. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for building and supporting world-class services and solutions for our customers across verticals in hospitality, student housing, enterprise, commercial, retail, and more. Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, this role directly manages engineering resources, delivers technical excellence, and ensures the successful execution of strategic initiatives.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical experience in managed endpoints, IT, and infrastructure, with a proven track record building high-performing technology teams in dynamic, multi-vendor environments. This leader will play a key role in contributing to our technical roadmap, supporting our operational goals, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for day-to-day management of Managed IT team, including workload management, escalation handling, and performance oversight
- Collaborate with leadership on service pricing, packaging, and cost modeling to ensure sustainable growth and profitability
- Maintain standard technology processes and procedures, serving as a champion and facilitator for process changes and improvements
- Drive continuous improvements of process, accuracy, and timelines
- Provide expertise in end user computing, cloud/SaaS platforms (Microsoft 365), server administration, identity management, and backup/DR technologies
- Act as a mentor and leader to technology teams
- Perform design work that incorporates industry best practices for hospitality and enterprise environments
- Function as a technical lead for advanced projects requiring IT services
- Ensure that security improvements are successfully implemented and monitored
- Coordinate proper installation, configuration, and testing of managed technology components
- Assist in developing and maintaining hardware life cycle management methodologies
- Contribute to Velocity’s technology roadmap development
- Foster career growth and development for team members, including certifications, career pathing, and training
- Collaborate with architecture function to ensure that designs are in line with the needs of the current and future requirements from our customers, technology platforms, and security compliance
- Engage and manage external vendors as appropriate to enhance the team’s capabilities
- Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned
- Participate in after-hours incident escalation as needed
- This position may require travel occasionally
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- 8+ years of experience implementing, troubleshooting, and maintaining IT systems across multiple technology domains
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience managing technical teams in MSP, service-provider, or multi-site enterprise environments
- Proven ability to build high-performing teams, develop leaders, and mature an operational organization through structure, discipline, and process
- Strong understanding of IT operations: identity, SaaS, endpoint management, server/virtualization, networking, backup/DR, monitoring, and security fundamentals
- Demonstrated extensive working knowledge of networking protocols and standards (e.g., OSPF, BGP, IPSEC, MPLS, STP, 802.11, VLAN, TCP/IP)
- Demonstrate the ability to lead complex projects in a cross functional team environment
- Demonstrate the ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong documentation and presentation skills, including the ability to build and deliver executive-level briefings and presentations
Qualifications, Experience and Education:
- Required — Bachelor’s degree in a technology-related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Required — Advanced experience with at least two of the following products or platforms: Microsoft 365, ADTRAN, Arista, HPE Aruba, Cisco, Fortinet, MikroTik, Palo Alto, and Ruckus
- Required — Experience developing and managing teams with focus on goal achievement
- Required — 5+ years of demonstrated progressive leadership
- Preferred — Experience in hospitality, multi-site enterprise or managed service provider
- Preferred — Industry relevant certifications — e.g., Microsoft 365, Microsoft Identity and Access, Fortinet NSE, Cisco CCNP Enterprise, Ruckus RCWA, CWNA, or similar
