About the Role
The Director of Materials is responsible for purchasing, inventory management, receiving, storage, distribution of supplies and medical equipment.
POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directs and coordinates material management functions.

Manages purchasing, inventory management, receiving, storage, and distribution of supplies and equipment.

Maintains and manages the Purchase Order Log.
-
Review of surgery schedule to identify any special orders, non-stock supplies or special equipment needed well in advance of need.

Adheres to processes for issuing supplies and proactively replenish stock to prevent stock out or shortages.
-
Maintains materials accountability systems to support hospital.
-
Accountable for all medical supply/services spend and resultant financial results with respect to budget/forecasting/targets.
-
Research supplies to find possible cost savings and presents findings to management teams to implement savings.
-
Accountable for direct reports and their productivity.
-
Accountable for building and maintaining relationships with peer department heads and administrative leadership teams.

Represents Supply Chain in various committees and meetings.
-
Oversees the physical inventory count.
-
Presents inventory utilization, dollar spend, and supply chain operations on a quarterly basis and to be included in management operating reports.

Directs product conversion efforts.

Accountable for meeting Supply Chain measures of success related to spend/inventory/HR/customer satisfaction.

Responsible for continuous improvement of material flow, utilization analysis and supply chain optimization.

Charged to continually develop hospital identified savings prospects and exploit known opportunities.

Assists the Surgery Department in the coordination, implementation, and updates of physician preference cards.

Manages direct reports.

Set clear goals and expectations; provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance reviews.

Develop talent through mentoring, training, and career development initiatives.
-
Promote a collaborative and engaging work environment that aligns with company values.
-
Manage conflict and make timely decisions to maintain team focus and performance.
-
Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and development conversations.
-
Approve timecards, schedules, time-off requests, and other administrative HR functions.
-
Ensure compliance with company policies, labor laws, and safety regulations.
-
All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree Business Administration preferred
-
Associate Degree Business Administration required.

A minimum five years’ experience in a Materials Management supervisory capacity.

Proficient in personal computer operation and software applications.
