B: Qualifications

The Director of Nursing (DON) provides leadership, clinical oversight, and operational management of nursing services within Aspire Behavioral Health & Developmental Disability Services, including outpatient behavioral health services, residential treatment programs, crisis services, substance use disorder programs, and intellectual/developmental disability (IDD) services.

The Director of Nursing ensures the delivery of safe, integrated, and person-centered healthcare services consistent with federal, state, and local regulations and accreditation standards including SAMHSA Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) criteria, Medicaid requirements, DBHDD regulations, and CARF accreditation standards where applicable.

The DON promotes integrated behavioral health and physical health care, supports care coordination and population health management, and provides clinical leadership to nursing staff to ensure delivery of evidence-based, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented services to individuals served by Aspire Behavioral Health & Developmental Disability Services.

Qualifications/Skills/Knowledge:

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related field preferred

Licensure

  • Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Georgia
  • CPR/BLS certification required

Experience

  • Minimum 57 years of nursing experience
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, or developmental disability services strongly preferred
  • Experience working within community behavioral health systems or CCBHC programs preferred

Preferred

  • Experience in outpatient or community-based behavioral health
  • Experience with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
  • Familiarity with DBHDD services and documentation standards
  • Experience providing services via telehealth
  • Bilingual skills (preferred but not required)
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Trauma-informed and culturally responsive care
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Comfort working with diverse and complex populations

H. Duties/Responsibilities:

Clinical Services

  • Directs, coordinates, and oversees all aspects of nursing services within Aspire Behavioral Health & Developmental Disability Services.
  • Provides leadership and supervision to nursing staff, including Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and other medical support personnel.
  • Establishes and maintains clinical standards of nursing practice to ensure safe, effective, and person-centered care.
  • Oversees nursing services across outpatient behavioral health programs, substance use disorder treatment services, crisis programs, residential services, and developmental disability programs.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations including DBHDD standards, Medicaid requirements, SAMHSA Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) criteria, CARF accreditation standards, and public health regulations.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors policies and procedures related to nursing services, medication administration, infection control, and clinical documentation.
  • Oversees infection prevention and control programs and ensures adherence to public health and safety guidelines.
  • Provides oversight of medication management practices, including medication storage, administration, reconciliation, monitoring, and disposal in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Coordinates with pharmacy providers to ensure proper medication services, compliance with medication regulations, and safe medication practices.
  • Oversees laboratory services coordination including collection procedures, reporting processes, and clinical follow-up as appropriate.
  • Ensures nursing involvement in health screenings, medical monitoring, and management of chronic health conditions for individuals receiving services.
  • Promotes integrated care by coordinating nursing services with behavioral health providers, medical providers, care coordinators, and interdisciplinary treatment teams.
  • Oversees the development and delivery of staff education, clinical training, and competency programs for nursing personnel.
  • Participates in recruitment, hiring, supervision, performance evaluation, and professional development of nursing staff.
  • Monitors clinical indicators, medication errors, incident reports, and adverse events and implements corrective actions to improve safety and quality of care.
  • Ensures nursing compliance with clinical documentation standards and medical record requirements.
  • Participates in regulatory reviews, licensing inspections, accreditation surveys, and organizational audits.
  • Collaborates with leadership and program directors to support program development, clinical effectiveness, and service quality.
  • Participates in organizational committees related to quality improvement, infection control, medication management, and risk management.
  • Supports organizational emergency preparedness planning and ensures nursing staff are trained in emergency response procedures.
  • Assists in monitoring nursing staffing levels and resource allocation to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Promotes evidence-based, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented care practices across nursing services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of Aspire Behavioral Health & Developmental Disability Services.
