Director of Ocean Product

Position Summary
The Director of Ocean Product is a subject matter expert with extensive experience in all aspects of international Ocean/NVOCC freight forwarding, including pricing, service management, and the end-to-end movement of import and export cargo. This role is responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing Radiant’s international ocean pricing strategies, service offerings, and overall market competitiveness.
The Director will collaborate closely with ocean carriers, NVOs, CFS operators, linehaul/drayage partners, and global agent partners to ensure competitive pricing and high service performance. Ongoing evaluation of trade lanes, carrier capabilities, operations, and cost structures is essential, along with preparing KPIs, dashboards, and performance measurements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor carrier performance and compliance; regularly communicate results to carriers and internal leadership.
  • Research, develop, and implement policies and procedures related to rate negotiation and procurement of international ocean transportation services.
  • Support large-volume RFQs; evaluate carrier pricing proposals, negotiate agreements, and coordinate contract execution with Legal and the international product team.
  • Partner with stations to strengthen competitiveness, operational performance, and pricing effectiveness.
  • Analyze transportation cost structures and service capabilities; develop strategic solutions to improve margins and reduce costs.
  • Maintain proactive communication with carriers and vendor partners.
  • Identify and evaluate transportation costs, capacity, and service levels to recommend improvements to the ocean product program.
  • Lead the implementation of carrier pricing policies and best practices across the organization.
  • Administer and maintain carrier contracts and approved-carrier lists.
  • Create and maintain monthly KPIs, dashboards, and other product performance metrics.
  • Manage escalations to resolve service claims with customers and carriers.
  • Support RVPs and Station Managers with training needs related to ocean product operations.
  • Stay current on industry and regulatory trends; communicate relevant impacts to leadership.
  • Ensure full FMC/NVO compliance, including maintaining OTI license requirements.
  • Oversee all tariff filings and tariff management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience & Skills
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in international ocean freight forwarding.
  • Minimum 5 years of management or supervisory experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong presentation abilities with the ability to communicate effectively with internal teams, carriers, and partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; PowerPoint preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
Management & Product Expertise
  • Well-organized, self-directed leader with both tactical and strategic capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in ocean import/export operations, consolidation, gateway operations, and trade lane management.
  • Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Hands-on operational gateway experience strongly preferred.
Analytical Skills
  • Ability to develop and implement processes, systems, and programs using high-performance work principles.
  • Advanced analytical skills to identify margin improvement opportunities and strengthen service offerings.
Work Schedule & Environment
  • Full time schedule of minimum 8 hours per day with flexibility to complete all required job duties and responsibilities.
  • Climate controlled office environment with moderate noise levels.
Physical Demands
  • Regular physical demands: Walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; use fingers for keyboarding; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
  • Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $110,000 - $130,000 Annual Salary Range
Starting pay is based on multiple factors, including but not limited to education, work experience, skills, and job-related knowledge. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
Additional Compensation: Other compensation includes incentive bonuses.
