SUMMARY

The Director of Operational Excellence plays a critical role in shaping and executing process improvement strategies that enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve service levels. This position will lead cross-functional initiatives, develop data-driven solutions, and collaborate with senior leadership to align operational excellence efforts with business goals. In addition, the role oversees strategic projects, supports change management, and drives the adoption of innovative technologies and performance benchmarks across the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish and oversee process improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and other operational excellence methodologies.
  • Partner with distribution center leadership, transportation, IT, and finance teams to drive operational efficiencies and implement best practices.
  • Utilize advanced data analytics and performance metrics to identify opportunities for efficiency gains and cost reductions.
  • Oversee strategic projects related to warehouse optimization, labor management, automation, and network efficiency.
  • Identify and implement new technologies, automation tools, and process innovations to enhance operational performance.
  • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarking strategies to measure and improve productivity, safety, and service levels.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by leading change management efforts and promoting operational excellence principles across the organization.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and project updates to senior leadership, ensuring transparency and alignment with corporate strategy.
  • Ensure all operational excellence initiatives comply with OSHA regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.

QUALIFICATONS

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related discipline required. Master’s Degree preferred. Must possess a minimum of 8-10 years of experience in operations, process improvement, or supply chain management, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role. Lean/Six Sigma certification required (Green Belt or higher). Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of logistics, warehousing, and supply chain processes, including labor planning and resource optimization.
  • Proficiency in Lean, Six Sigma, and quality management principles to drive process efficiency and eliminate waste.
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets and performance metrics to inform strategic and tactical decisions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, charts) and similar tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) for data analysis and reporting.
  • Skilled in leading cross-functional initiatives with clear goals, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Strong critical thinking skills to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Ability to lead teams through operational changes and foster adoption of new processes and systems.
  • Comfortable managing competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Travel:

Ability to travel within the United States up to 50% of the time.

Working Conditions:

Primarily located in a climate controlled office environment. Occasional to Frequent exposure to outdoors and indoor warehouse environment with adequate ventilation. Occasional to Frequent exposure to vibration, improperly illuminated or awkward and confining work spaces. Occasional to Frequent working above ground level where the possibility of falling exists. Loud noises typical when present in a warehouse or outdoor environment.
