With 14-stories, 220 rooms, 2500 sq. ft. of meeting space & "The Bistro" restaurant, we are offering an opportunity for a Director of Operations. Just a short commute away, we are conveniently located within close proximity to Boston’s North Station and all major highways.

Position Overview: The Courtyard Boston Downtown/North Station is in search of a dynamic, self-motivated Director of Operations who will be responsible for successful running of the entire hotel operation including Front Office and Housekeeping Management teams and their associated departments. Reporting directly to the General Manager the Director of Operations will hold accountability for instilling quality service prior to and throughout a guests stay, generating and promoting ideas to enhance the guest experience, and consistently ensuring that all company and brand standards are met while maximizing room revenue, occupancy, and guest satisfaction.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead all facets of hotel rooms operation
  • Ensure that sufficient staffing is present to meet daily business demands
  • Support General Manager in preparation and execution of operational budgets
  • Review departmental budgets versus expenditure on a monthly basis and take action to ensure expenses are kept within budgeted guidelines, adapting and reacting as necessary
  • Manage all areas of guest service and ensure compliance from brand standard perspective
  • Maintain compliance with Marriott Courtyard Quality Assurance procedures and ensure all departments are consistently executing brand and ownership standards
  • Remain abreast of the current Courtyard Brand Standards and ensure all departments and employees are up to date on all required training
  • Expediently respond and react to emergency situations, notifying all necessary parties per company standards
  • Maintain consistent and effective flow of communication between General Manager, Department Heads and team members
  • Actively participate in training and continuing education of all operational leaders and employees
  • Work alongside in Director of Human Resources in recruiting and hiring
  • Complete projects required by General Manager in a timely manner
  • Coordinate all daily, weekly, and monthly operational duties for the hotel with department leaders ensuring success in all areas
  • Attend or host when needed the daily leadership meeting
  • Monitor scheduling and payroll for Front Office and Housekeeping in accordance with forecast, budget guidelines, and productivity requirements ensuring overtime is kept to a minimum
  • Keep abreast of all union activity and ensure the operation is running in accordance with union requirements
  • Take on any other duties that may be required by the General Manager
  • Develop and directs the leadership staff by coaching, counseling, and providing guidance, while motivating ensure growth and maintain positivity throughout the operation
  • Ensure that employees are, at all times, attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests and colleagues

Qualifications, Job knowledge, Experience, Skills, Abilities:

  • 4 Year College degree preferred in Hospitality or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in hospitality industry, preferably Guest Services area
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, to respond to guest requests and give direction to co-workers
  • Effective leadership skills enabling the motivation of employees and leaders through operational challenges
  • Maintain professionalism at all times, demonstrating courtesy and respect to guests and co-workers
  • Ability to manage and resolve conflicts
  • Knowledge of operating within a union environment

Physical requirements of the position and work environment:

  • Must be able to walk, climb stairs
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, crouch
  • Must use hands to reach, grasp, handle, pull and push
  • Must have good near and far vision
  • Must be able to hear, talk, smell
  • Must be able to lift & carry up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for up to 5 hours and a total of 7 hours in an 8-hour shift
  • Duties may be performed indoors or outdoors in a moderate noise level
