Overview
ESI is seeking a Director of Project Development to join our team in Kennesaw, Georgia. This position requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, a P.E. License, and a minimum of fifteen years of experience in project development for steam and power generation projects. ESI typically performs projects on an EPC (Engineer, Procure, Construction) basis. Project development includes proposal development, front end engineering, and the project estimate. The ideal candidate would have experience working for an engineering firm performing the project development of EPC Projects in the $50+ million range.
Director of Project Development
Responsibilities:
- Manage the development of new project opportunities identified by the business development team
- Coordinate proposal development, front end engineering, and project estimation for 4-6 core projects per year totaling $300+ million in value plus multiple smaller projects
- Lead the project development team and perform a technical and commercial evaluation of all proposals
- Obtain input from the engineering and construction project leads during proposal development
- Perform and/or evaluate preliminary heat and mass balances for gas and solid fuel-fired boilers, steam turbine generators, combustion turbine generators, reciprocating engines and material handling systems
- Perform and/or evaluate initial equipment sizing and selection including specification development, RFP development and bid evaluation
- Conceptualize preliminary general arrangement drawings, process flow diagrams and process and instrumentation diagrams to support proposals and engineering studies
- Perform and/or evaluate detailed material take-offs for concrete, structural steel and piping systems utilizing general arrangement drawings and process and instrumentation diagrams
- Provide information for the development of project schedules for EPC project proposals and front-end engineering
- Visit jobsites to obtain or confirm project specifics to ensure an accurate estimate
- Track and evaluate data from current and previous projects for use in future estimates
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering Discipline (Mechanical, Chemical, Construction, etc.)
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- Minimum of fifteen years of experience in EPC Project Development including proposal development, front end engineering and estimating for steam and power projects
- Ability to “size up opportunities” and make “go/no go” recommendations for potential projects
- Experience with proposal development and estimation for projects in the $50+ million range
- Knowledge of steam and power generation systems including combined and rankine cycle cogeneration using fossil fuels, biomass, RNG, hydrogen, and plant waste projects
- Experience writing equipment specifications for the following: pumps, fans, material handling systems, boilers and pressure parts, heat exchangers, air pollution control equipment, steam turbine generators, combustion turbines and reciprocating engines
- Experience preparing and interpreting process flow diagrams, general arrangement drawings and P&IDs
- Comprehensive understanding of all engineering and construction disciplines including civil/structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation and controls
- Proficient with InEight Construction Estimating Software or another industrial construction estimation software
- Proficient with Excel
- Experience with Thermoflow and Primavera P6 is a PLUS
