Rockdale County Public School is looking for a Director for its Middle School Magnet program
This is a new program for the 26-27 school year. Prior leadership experience in a Magnet or STEM program is preferred.
JOB GOAL: To use leadership, supervisory, and management skills to promote the educational development of each student in the Magnet School.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS: Valid Georgia Teacher Certification in an academic area; a Master’s degree or higher is required; a minimum of five years of acceptable school experience, including experience within a Magnet or other specialized secondary school. Ability to effectively communicate with gifted students, staff, parents, and the public. Physical demands – position requires some sitting, standing, walking, and kneeling. Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling will not normally exceed thirty (30) pounds, and will normally be in the area of ten (10) pounds.
JOB DUTIES: Is present at work every day and arrives at assigned time. Demonstrates an attitude and demeanor that contributes to an atmosphere of harmony and goodwill in the workplace. the Effectively assesses student/teacher needs in the Magnet School. Coordinates the development of curriculum; records and tracks teacher adherence to program goals. Evaluates textbooks, courses, and curriculum annually; creates new components for Research I, II, III, IV. Develops an outreach program through which Magnet students serve as ambassadors for middle school science classes and labs. 2 Recruits qualified Magnet teachers. Effectively supervises, develops, and evaluates Magnet teachers. Conducts Magnet staff meetings. Visits classrooms weekly. Coordinates lesson plan design and implementation Assists staff in the development of lab experiments. Attends RCHS faculty meetings and other pertinent RCHS meetings Develops and implements curriculum and activities for summer science camp Selects and coordinates teachers to work with STEP students. Coordinates the development of appropriate curricular activities with STEP students. Conducts monthly STEP meetings. Serves as county coordinator for RCPS/STEP partnership. Serves as mentor and advisor for student projects. Proofs of research papers Coordinates participation in local, regional, state, and international science fairs. Plans and directs 9 th-grade student orientation. Updates website weekly with class assignments. Collaborates with RCHS administrative staff on student disciplinary issues Communicates with parents/guardians as needs dictate. Orients students to Georgia Tech campus and RMSST for the summer program. Coordinates housing and communicate with parents; secures permission forms. Collaborates with math team sponsor on practices and competitions. Meets with Magnet seniors bi-monthly. Distributes information concerning college visits. Distributes scholarship applications; complete recommendation letters and forms. Collaborates with Career Resource Center (CRC) paraprofessional; schedules student visits with CRC paraprofessional. Reports all scholarship monies offered to Magnet seniors. Schedules and conducts meetings of the Advisory Board. Develops itinerary for the trip to Lycom. Coordinates research work projects for French and Magnet students. Creates and compiles all necessary paperwork and release forms prior to the trip. Travels to France and effectively chaperones Magnet students. Develops and coordinates the Lycom visit to RMSST. Develops local business/industry contacts, support, and partnerships for all work-based learning programs. Creates and submits the operating budget to RCPS and Magnet Fund. Develops criteria for Magnet teacher stipends. Coordinates registration of Magnet teachers for professional learning opportunities. Visits classrooms weekly. Maintains appropriate records; completes all required compliance reports Participates in professional meetings, educational conferences, and staff development opportunities. Complies with all requirements for mandatory reporting of child abuse, illegal harassment, or criminal activity for which the employee becomes aware. Performs other duties as assigned. 3 EVALUATION: Performance in this position
