Director of Sales and Marketing

Position Summary

The Director of Sales and Marketing is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive revenue strategies that integrate sales, distribution, and marketing efforts. This role oversees proactive sales initiatives while providing strategic direction and performance oversight for all marketing activities managed by third-party partners.

This leader works closely with hotel General Managers, revenue management, and executive leadership to ensure alignment on pricing, positioning, and demand generation strategies.

Key Responsibilities

1. Sales Leadership and Revenue Generation

  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans to drive revenue growth across all market segments, including group, corporate, and negotiated accounts
  • Lead proactive sales efforts including prospecting, client development, and account management to secure new and repeat business
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through networking, referrals, and industry relationships
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements to maximize profitability while maintaining competitiveness
  • Travel as needed for outside sales calls, trade shows, and client engagement

2. Revenue Strategy and Market Positioning

  • Partner with the Revenue Manager to align pricing, forecasting, and distribution strategies
  • Analyze market trends, competitor performance, and demand patterns to inform strategic decisions
  • Evaluate comp set dynamics and anticipate market shifts to maintain a competitive edge
  • Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and monthly P&L reviews

3. Marketing Strategy and Oversight

  • Provide strategic direction for all marketing initiatives to ensure alignment with revenue goals and brand standards
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external marketing and website partners, setting priorities and ensuring timely execution of initiatives
  • Oversee digital marketing performance including website effectiveness, SEO/SEM, online reputation, and paid media efforts
  • Analyze campaign performance, website metrics, and conversion data to optimize marketing ROI
  • Ensure consistency of brand messaging across all digital platforms, thirdparty channels, and propertylevel materials
  • Identify new marketing opportunities, tools, and technologies to enhance visibility and direct booking performance

4. Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Collaborate with operations teams to align sales and marketing strategies with propertylevel execution
  • Provide guidance and support to hotel teams on local sales and marketing initiatives
  • Conduct training on sales strategies, market segmentation, and revenue optimization techniques
  • Foster strong relationships with vendors, partners, and distribution channels to support business objectives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in Hospitality Management, Business, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in hotel sales, with leadership or multiproperty responsibility preferred
  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and achieving or exceeding sales targets
  • Strong understanding of hotel distribution channels, revenue management principles, and market analytics
  • Experience working with or managing external marketing agencies or vendors preferred
  • Solid knowledge of digital marketing fundamentals, with a focus on strategy and performance metrics
