Job Summary
Xavier University of Louisiana seeks to hire a Director of Sponsored Program. The Director of Sponsored Programs will support the University’s research and sponsored programs by providing leadership in the areas of research administration and sponsored programs management. AA/EOE

Minimum Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree
Required Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years of research administration experience and five (5) years of leadership and management experience
Knowledge of:
  • Federal regulations and policies related to grants and contracts;
  • Trends, issues, and best practices relevant to the position;
Skills:
  • Strong research administration skills;
  • Ability to work and manage her/his workload independently;
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, organizational and time management skills;
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Knowledge of agency policies related to grants supported by federal agencies, including NIH, NSF, NASA, DOEd and DOD.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred
Certified Research Administrator (CRA) credential

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Description
  • Supports faculty and staff by designing, implementing, and continuously assessing a comprehensive suite of preaward and postaward services and resources (one-on-one or small group sessions with PI and/or key personnel, development of written resources such as instructions, grants manuals, etc.).
  • Supervise preaward and postaward staff tasked with research administration duties as well as the review, approval, and negotiation of grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, subawards, data usage agreements, material transfer agreements, etc.
  • Keeps abreast of legislation, federal regulations, policies and sponsor requirements for research, grants and other sponsored programs and takes appropriate actions, as necessary.
  • Facilitates partnerships with other institutions to collaborate on joint grant proposals.
  • Completes agency forms, assurances, and certifications, and provides institutional statistics related to external funding.
  • Serves as the AVP’s proxy for various local and statewide advisory groups, as needed.
  • Coordinates system implementation, maintenance and enhancement efforts for the university’s research and grants management systems.
  • Drafts reports, as necessary.
  • Provides oversight and support in the screening of IRB applications.
  • Coordinates research and sponsored program events and special projects involving faculty, staff and students across campus.
  • Assists the AVP in managing the operations budget.
  • Serve as proxy to approve staff leave requests, timesheets, and other personnel actions.
  • Assists the AVP in managing the ORSP workflow to ensure efficiency and timeliness.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
