Position Description
The Director of Student Services oversees daily operations, strategic planning, and educational services ensuring the delivery of high-quality advisement and instructional support while fostering a welcoming, productive environment for students of all learning ability levels at Northwest Catholic. The Director will collaborate with the school principal to identify the needs of autistic (ASD) students on campus, based on formal documentation provided to the school, and actively support their academic progress. The Director of Student Services leads a support team of school counselor(s), social worker(s), and educational interventionist(s) in promoting student achievement. In addition, the Director of Student Services supports students in achieving academic success by providing tutoring, study skills assistance, and educational resources. This role involves working closely with students, faculty, and staff to foster a productive and supportive learning environment for students, guiding students through educational pathways and preparing them for success in high school and beyond.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the daily operations of student services and the learning center including staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Facilitate academic support through one-on-one or group tutoring sessions.
- Work individually with students enrolled in the Academic Success class to provide individualized instructional support and reinforce positive study skills and habits.
- Assist students with developing effective time management and test preparation strategies.
- Identify and assist autistic (ASD) students on campus.
- Provide training and support in the form of professional development for instructors and support staff, working with teachers to identify students in need of additional support and developing strategies to support them.
- Ensure that teachers are providing the necessary classroom accommodations to students with Individualized Catholic Education Plans (ICEP) in collaboration with the Social Worker.
- Provide individual counseling in academic, college and personal/social development.
- Monitor student progress and provide guidance to ensure learning goals are met.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and recommendations.
- Create a safe, welcoming environment for students in the Learning Resource Center.
- Integrate Catholic social teaching and the school's mission into counseling practices.
- Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church and treating members of the campus community with fairness, dignity, and respect.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all student interactions.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the principal.
Qualifications/ Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, counseling or related field required (master’s preferred).
- At least 3 years of experience working with students who have learning differences preferred.
- Strong organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills.
- Adequate physical ability to navigate our campus and travel.
- Ability to manage software and technology and perform data analysis
- The ability to be available for evening events and weekends.
- Ability to lift 10-20 lbs.
