The anticipated salary range for this position is $160,000 - 200,000 plus annual incentive bonus and potential LTI. Actual compensation offered may vary based on job related factors such as experience, skills, education and location.

Summary

The Director of Transportation Procurement develops and implements enterprise‑wide transportation and logistics sourcing strategies. The incumbent in this role delivers sourcing strategy development, execution, and optimization for key modes of transportation—LTL, TL, Fleet, Ocean, Air Freight, and other assigned areas—with a core focus on transportation and supply chain partners.


The leader in this role manages the sourcing process for carriers, from supplier/service evaluation to contract negotiation and compliance monitoring. The role also coordinates and manages the ongoing supplier management process, maintains an understanding of enterprise needs and industry best practices, and manages logistics and carrier sourcing efforts using advanced sourcing optimization tools to maximize return on managed spend and sustain strong supplier relationships.


Additionally, this role successfully liaises between site locations and the supporting corporate functions of transportation, logistics, and warehousing to implement updates that support business initiatives. A core focus of this role is ensuring we avoid disruptions to customer service levels while putting improvement plans in place to deliver demonstrable improvement in OTIF and other key transportation metrics.

Core Responsibilities

Responsibilities include strategic sourcing, contract management, supplier performance, and operational support detailed as follows:

1. Strategic Sourcing and Market Intelligence:

  • Performs market research on assigned logistic and supply chain categories.
  • Identifies qualified suppliers for participation in sourcing events.
  • Networks externally to obtain competitive intelligence, including best practices, emerging opportunities, and market pricing.
  • Works with internal customers and business units to formulate short‑ and long‑term sourcing strategies for external suppliers and service providers.
  • Develops effective working relationships with key decision-makers, line‑of‑business executives, and subject‑matter experts.

2. Contract Negotiations and Lifecycle Management:

  • Supports transportation procurement for all Owens & Minor Business Units.
  • Leverages Coupa Sourcing Optimization to run sourcing events and conduct scenario‑based analyses to deliver strong savings to the P&L.
  • Supports initiatives and manages the contract lifecycle for all suppliers within scope across transportation modes.
  • Leads contract negotiations using techniques such as multi‑round competitive bidding and RFIs; manages cross‑functional teams in the execution of procurement strategies; and maintains the highest ethical standards in accordance with Owens & Minor policy

3. Supplier Performance and Compliance Monitoring:

  • Monitors key developments among suppliers, such as financial results, leadership changes, and product or service strategies.
  • Tracks supplier compliance with established agreements, including service levels, outages, customer satisfaction, responsiveness, invoice accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Monitors organizational compliance with vendor agreements, including adherence to contract terms, self‑audit requirements, and timely invoice payments.

4. Operational Support, Technology, and Reporting:

  • Provides training and tools to business users and internal customers to support procurement processes.
  • Provides management and administrative support for technology tools that enable supplier and contract management.
  • Tracks and reports savings for assigned categories.
  • Runs queries in financial systems

Qualifying Experience

Procurement and Logistics Expertise (Technical Skills):

This category covers the foundational knowledge, systems, and functional skills required to manage the supply chain

  • 7 or more years of experience in procurement and negotiation of indirect goods and services or in business areas related to supply chain (sourcing, healthcare, logistics, warehouse operations, inventory management, etc.)
  • Experience with Coupa Sourcing Optimization preferred; experience with other transportation bidding and auction tools will be considered
  • Experience planning and managing shipments with a Transportation Management System.
  • Knowledge of transportation pricing and DOT regulations, including Hours of Service and hazardous materials requirements.
  • Knowledge of logistics documentation (Bill of Lading, claims forms, etc.).
  • International regulatory experience/exposure preferred.
  • Broad understanding of carriers and logistics service providers.
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct RFPs and RFIs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competitive bidding processes ethically and impartially.
  • Ability to read and write contracts.
  • Fundamental understanding of financial systems data, accounting, and e‑procurement technologies.
  • Understanding of accounting principles, including the ability to analyze supplier financial statements.
  • Financial analysis skills, including preparation of complex financial model

Leadership and Strategic Management:

This category covers experience in directing teams, stakeholder management, and driving process improvement.

  • Prior leadership experience from a team management perspective
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and manage transportation providers.
  • Experienced with presenting and selling ideas at multiple levels.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to analyze transportation data and develop plans to reduce costs or increase efficiency.

Education and Professional Credentials:

This category outlines the formal education, certifications, and qualifying experience required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, supply chain, business required, master’s degree preferred.
  • CSCMP, AICS, and CPSM certifications preferred.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience to meet the above requirements.
