Muskingum County Head Start is currently looking for an Early Childhood Disabilities/Mental Health/ Transitions Manager to assist teaching staff in implementing appropriate classroom and individual interventions. The position provides ongoing support, education, and strategies to classroom staff, home visitors, and parents in order to assist with the social emotional health of children and to positively impact the child’s overall educational experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Metal Health , or Special Education with at least 2 years Teaching experience.
2. One year (1) prior experience working with low income families and children required. Experience working with pre-school children having challenging behaviors or special education needs is preferred.
3. An understanding of Conscious Discipline, with a willingness to instruct and model Conscious Discipline strategies.
4. Initiative to develop services and work with professionals in both the public and private sector.
5. Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, decision-making, time management, team building, and organizational skills. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with individuals and also with large groups.
6. Valid Driver’s License, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation.
7. Ability to pass an Ohio BCI & FBI background check and pre-employment physical.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
This position requires 75% of time in classroom (hands-on with preschool-age children, modeling strategies for children/staff to regulate behaviors) and 25% of time traveling to Head Start centers or homes, meeting with parents, consulting with Mental Health Consultant, and completing reporting requirements.
JOB DUTIES:
1. Responsible for all internal behavior referrals
2. Responsible for making mental health referrals and monitoring the implementation of Head Start/Early Head Start behavioral health services
3. Provides general observations to assess group functioning in classrooms
4. Collaborates and creates with classroom staff, parents, Home Visitors, and Mental Health Consultant to develop ICPGP as needed
5. Conducts parent meetings to advise the parent of concerns about his/her child’s behavioral issues and establishes a working partnership to successfully address the child’s needs
6. Guides the planning and implementation of behavior programs (Conscious Discipline/DECA) through direct modeling with classroom staff
7. Conducts behavioral assessments of children and environmental assessments of classrooms
8. Provides trainings to parents and staff
