The Disaster Recovery Lead is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization’s disaster recovery (DR) strategy to ensure availability and recoverability of business-critical IT systems . This role leads DR planning, testing, coordination, and continuous improvement across infrastructure, applications, and data—partnering closely with IT Ops, Cybersecurity, solution Architects, and Business Units.
- Develop and govern the DR Strategy and recovery strategy aligned to RTO/RPO targets for critical services.
- Maintain DR policies, standards, and playbooks; ensure compliance with BCM frameworks (ISO 22301, ISO/IEC 27031) and regulatory requirements.
- Develop Recovery Tiering for applications; maintain Business Impact Analysis (BIA) mapping to recovery priorities.
- Establish and monitor DR KPIs and report posture to leadership and audit.
- Collaborate with Business Unit’s representatives to prepare quarterly , yearly drill plans , schedule them and lead all the DR exercise.
- Ensure DR readiness across all the business units, region , and accounts
- Integrate DR into SDLC/DevOps, including DR requirements in design reviews and change management.
- Build and execute the annual DR test plan: tabletop, component, partial, and full-scale failover exercises.
- Automate DR validation (runbooks, scripts, IaC, chaos/DR drills where appropriate).
- Track gaps (people/process/technology); drive remediation to closure with owners.
- Certify systems for DR readiness and maintain attestation.
- Lead DR response during major incidents; coordinate recovery steps and communication.
- Maintain runbooks, contact trees, and escalation paths; ensure on-call coverage and vendor alignment.
- Work with InfoSec on ransomware-ready recovery (immutable backups, clean-room recovery, data integrity).
- Ensure backup integrity: retention, encryption, air-gapped/offline copies, recovery SLAs.
- Partner with DR Trustee, Application Owners, Platform Teams, and Business Continuity to align on recovery priorities.
- Prepare executive reports and posture dashboards; present outcomes and plans to leadership and audit.
- 5 to 8 years in IT infrastructure/application operations; 5+ years focused on DR/BCM.
- Hands-on experience with: Governance , establishing process and leading drills on Cloud DR (AWS/Azure/GCP): cross-region replication.
- Proven track record running DR drills and leading major incident recovery .
- Strong understanding of RTO/RPO , BIA, dependency mapping, and risk assessment .
- Excellent coordination, communication, and documentation skills.
- Strong understanding on ON-PREM & cloud infrastructure disaster recovery solutions, DR processes & best DR practices
- Understanding of high-availability technologies, including servers, networking components, database / storage and associated replication technologies, cloud infrastructure
- Understanding of data replication technologies & tools (Zerto, Oracle Data Guard or similar technologies) - Must
- Basic understanding of SDLC, DevOps tools,
- Must have a self-starting, driven, assertive and positive attitude
- Demonstrates effective problem-solving skills
- Ability to lead the bridges , lesson learned calls
- Good presentation & communication skills

- Certifications: CBCP (DRI), ISO 22301 Lead Implementer, AWS/Azure Architect, ITIL, CISSP/CISA (for security-integrated DR).
